Continuum of the Loden Entrepreneurship Programme

During one of my many encounters as a Loden officer, a distinguished individual posed a question that made me pause: “Tell me about the impact of Loden on entrepreneurship. How many lives have you changed?” A simple answer of ‘320 entrepreneurs’ would have sufficed. Yet, I found myself reflecting before I spoke. Even if I spent an entire day counting, the true measure would remain elusive. Impact is rarely linear. It cascades. Loden empowers one entrepreneur, who in turn lifts others, and the ripple multiplies in ways that defy any tally.

As Doctor Karma Phuntsho recalls, it was on the slopes of the French Alps, alongside Anne Tardy and the late Gérard Tardy, that prompted the Loden Entrepreneurship Programme. By April 2008, the Loden Entrepreneurship Programme held its very first training, bringing together 45 young Bhutanese brimming with ideas and ambition. Each participant carried the possibility of reshaping not only their own future but also of creating jobs, strengthening families, and revitalizing entire communities. Later that same year, Loden introduced its pioneering competition for interest-free and collateral-free startup funding, an unprecedented initiative that endures to this day.

Nearly two decades have since passed. The programme has grown quietly but steadily, one entrepreneur at a time, one dream at a time. In the spring of 2026, ten new entrepreneurs answered the call, bringing the count to 330. Yet numbers, however meaningful, cannot capture the full essence of impact. When asked how many lives we have touched, my answer remains the same: I could never truly count them, even if I tried all day. Perhaps, the best way to grasp that impact is not through figures, but by witnessing first-hand, beginning with these ten.

3. Loden Apprenticeship Programme – for Diploma and Certificate courses
