Earth Day is a reminder that protecting our planet requires more than awareness, it requires action.
At Gross International Nature, our work reflects the true spirit of Earth Day: restoring ecosystems, reducing pollution, and building a more sustainable future, we’ve worked alongside people to turn action into impact:
🌊 6,000+ kg of waste removed from rivers through clean-ups
🗑️ 49+ tons of plastic waste collected
♻️ 48 tons recycled and upcycled into valuable resources
🏡 12 community waste storage centers established
🧺 Hundreds of bins distributed to enable segregation at source
🏭 A recycling hub processing up to 2000kg of waste daily
🧱 Plastic transformed into UR Bricks, pellets, and reusable materials
👩‍🌾 Thousands of women and youth empowered to lead change
🌱 Innovative solutions like river interceptors preventing waste from entering waterways
Every step brings us closer to a Bhutan where waste no longer pollutes our land and rivers.
The Earth gives us everything , it’s time we give back, not just today, but every day. 🌍

On 14th of April 2026, Gin attended the ‘Brown Sector Environmental Systems in Bhutan: Challenges and Pathways Forward’ seminar at RUB Hall, led by the well-known Emeritus Professor Chettiyappan Visvanathan from Mahidol University, Thailand, about Bhutan’s brown sector waste. The seminar explained different types of waste and ways to manage them. The suggested solution was a smart wastewater system with small treatment units that use sensors and the internet to send information to a central dashboard, making it easy to monitor, control, and prevent problems. Real-life examples from Thailand were shared to support this idea.
For the young participants from GIN and RTC, this program was a valuable chance to learn about important issues in Bhutan’s brown sector and to see solutions used in other countries that could also help Bhutan.

Grateful to Build a Cleaner Thimphu, Together 🌱
GIN is truly grateful for the opportunity to support the Clean Thimphu City Initiative alongside Thimphu Thromde. Through targeted training sessions, we reached community leaders, drivers, and schools—strengthening collective action for better waste management and a cleaner, smarter Thimphu.

Tango Monastery is one of Bhutan’s most important cultural and historical institutions. And although it is far from town, the monks here are caring for their environment and waste.

Through the PLEASE Project, we worked to bring waste awareness and river protection to places often left out of the conversation.

Because when it comes to conservation, no place and no person should be considered too far, too small, or too sacred to include.

The health of our rivers begins with everyday choices.
And change begins where we least expect it, sometimes, even at a monastery.

Watch how monks at the Tango Monastery are choosing responsibility, one step at a time.

This initiative is part of the Plastic Free Rivers and Seas for South Asia implemented by the South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme and supported by UNOPS and the World Bank.
