๐‹๐ก๐จ๐ฉ๐ฌ ๐Ž๐Ÿ ๐๐ก๐ฎ๐ญ๐š๐ง Lhops are an aboriginal inhabitants of Bhutan. They are the native and indigenous people of Bhutan with unique culture and tradition.

This page shares and preserves knowledge about the cultural heritage, traditions, and history of the Lhop people of Bhutan, promoting awareness of their rich identity and lived experiences for present and future generations. Lhops literally means southerners, a term mostly used by the people of the Paro and Haa valleys. Its use may also go back to the ancient Tibetan reference of Bhutan as Lhop Yu

el, the country to the south of Tibet and the people of Lhop Yuel as Lhop. In the past Lhops were settled in the different parts of the country and elsewhere it has been said that later migrants from Tibet might have pushed them away to the southern foothills and today we see Lhops in the southern part of the country. Later Lhop are used to called as "Doya" by Nepalese immigrants while they came to Bhutan ๏ฟฝ. In Nepali term "Daya" means kind hearted. Lhop peoples had shoulder and helped Nepali immigrants in terms of giving house and land to stay. Due to that they started calling Lhops as Doya.

With support from the Tarayana Foundation, the hospitality training at the Community lodge in Jigme Village has successfully concluded. The program empowered the local community to manage and operate the lodge to professional standards, strengthened livelihoods, and promoted sustainable practices.

I belong to the Lhop (Doya) community, one of the indigenous peoples of southern Bhutan. Our roots run deep in the forests and hills of Samtse and nearby regions, carrying a history of resilience, harmony with nature, and rich cultural traditions.

Though small in number, the Lhop community holds a unique language, culture, and identity that form an important part of Bhutanโ€™s diversity. Today, we continue to move forward through education, hard work, and unityโ€”while honoring our heritage and ancestors.
