🇧🇸 From Idea to Enterprise: Creating the Next Generation of Bahamian Entrepreneurs

The Rotary Club of Old Fort welcomed Samantha Rolle of the Small Business Development Centre (SBDC) to this week’s meeting for an insightful discussion on entrepreneurship and the important role small businesses play in driving the Bahamian economy.

Ms. Rolle shared the importance of developing a sound business idea, having the right tools to turn that idea into a business, and building the foundation for a thriving enterprise. She also highlighted the SBDC’s work in supporting local businesses and encouraged us to consider how we might become the next generation of Bahamian entrepreneurs.

The evening also provided an opportunity to celebrate the achievements and dedication of our members. We proudly recognized Mrs. Stevette Smith as our Rotarian of the Quarter, in recognition of her outstanding dedication to the spirit of Rotary.

Our Foundation Chair, IPP O’Niel Bain, shared the exciting news that our club will be celebrating 20 Paul Harris Fellows at the upcoming Rotary Foundation Gala; a wonderful milestone in our commitment to Rotary’s mission.

President Lashanta Smith congratulated the club on its remarkable achievements in Q1 and encouraged members to continue doing “M.O.R.E” in Q2 as we build on our momentum and deepen our impact.

From empowering entrepreneurs to celebrating service and generosity, we remain committed to making a difference in our community.

The Rotary Club of Old Fort is proud to partner with Domino’s Pizza Bahamas for this special initiative. 1% of sales from all items purchased at all New Providence locations will be donated to The Rotary Foundation’s PolioPlus Fund, helping support the global effort to eradicate polio.

🧡 Be a Buddy, Not a Bully! Kindness starts with ME! 🧡

In recognition of National Bullying Prevention Month, the Rotary Club of Old Fort returned to Adelaide Primary School for The Kindness Project: Choose Kindness. Be the Change.

Through engaging conversations led by Dr. Petra Forbes and guest speaker Rodericka Collie, students explored the importance of kindness, respect, inclusion and standing up for others.

Led by PP Derek Smith, students took the Kindness Pledge, committing to be buddies, not bullies! Their promises were brought to life through a Kindness Tree, while special Kindness Kits provided reminders to carry these lessons beyond the classroom and lunch was provided by the Lyford Cay Club.

For nearly a decade, RCOF has proudly partnered with Adelaide Primary School, and this initiative is another reminder that building stronger communities starts with how we treat one another and the Rotary Club of Old Fort remains committed to a holistic approach to mental wellness for all.

Strong clubs don’t just do the work. They make time to talk about the work.

That’s one of the things we value about Club Assembly at the Rotary Club of Old Fort.

Last week, our members came together to hear directly from our committees, ask questions, share ideas and get a clear picture of how our club is progressing through the Rotary year.

We talked about everything from finances and membership to community service, Rotary Foundation, club administration and training.

But perhaps most importantly, we had the opportunity to reconnect with the why behind what we do.

Because when everyone understands the vision, sees the progress and has a voice in the conversation, it creates something bigger than a collection of committees.

It creates a club that is engaged, energized and ready to serve.

Q1 gave us plenty to celebrate. Now, we’re taking that energy into Q2 with new ideas, new opportunities and plenty more work to do in our community.

Here’s to a strong Q2 and an even greater impact. 💙

For the mothers, sisters, daughters, friends and loved ones whose lives have been touched by breast cancer.

We wear pink to honor those we’ve lost, stand beside those still fighting, celebrate survivors, and remind one another that awareness, early detection and support matter.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, members of the Rotary Club of Old Fort are sharing why they wear pink because behind every pink shirt, ribbon or accessory is a story, a person, and a reason to care.

Q1 in the books. Q2, we’re ready for you! 💙

Last night, the Rotary Club of Old Fort came together for our first Club Assembly of the Rotary year; an opportunity for our members to pause, reflect on where we are, and look ahead to where we’re going.

From reviewing our club budget and membership growth to updates from Community Service, Club Administration, Rotary Foundation, Training, and more, our committees shared the incredible work happening behind the scenes to keep our club moving forward.

And there’s a lot to be excited about. 👏🏾

Club Assembly is more than a meeting. It’s a chance to ask questions, share ideas, celebrate progress, and make sure we’re all moving in the same direction.

After an exciting Q1, we’re feeling energized, focused and more than ready for Q2.

The work continues. The impact continues. And we’re just getting started.

We’re excited to welcome NRG to this year’s World’s Greatest Meal program as we come together for a cause that reaches far beyond our own tables: ending polio.

From Oct 7th - 24th visit NRG Palmdale or Cable Beach and order a Power Salad or Drew Berry More Smoothie and 10% of your sale will be donated to the Rotary Foundation’s PolioPlus Fund.
