Freedom of Expression

Fundamental Rights Section

The Constitution also recognizes that every person in The Bahamas is entitled to fundamental rights and freedoms, including:

subject to respect for the rights of others and the public interest.

What this means for Pride Bahamas and these rights are guaranteed to “every person,” LGBTI Bahamians have the constitutional right to:

* Organize and participate in Pride events.
* Hold peaceful marches and demonstrations.
* Form advocacy organizations.

* Advocate for legal and social change.

These rights can be subject to lawful restrictions relating to public safety, public order, public health, or the rights of others, but any restrictions must be justified within a democratic society.

The Rebirth of Pride Bahamas is more than a celebration—it is a social justice movement dedicated to advancing the human rights, dignity, and inclusion of LGBTIQ Bahamians.

For many years, members of our community have faced discrimination, exclusion, stigma, and barriers to full participation in society. Pride Bahamas exists to amplify our voices, advocate for equality, and create spaces where every person can live authentically and safely.

Our movement is rooted in the belief that human rights belong to everyone. We advocate for fairness, respect, opportunity, and freedom from discrimination, while building bridges of understanding throughout our communities.

Pride is about visibility. Pride is about courage. Pride is about creating a Bahamas where all people are treated with dignity and respect, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.

As we continue this journey, we honor those who came before us, celebrate those who stand with us today, and work toward a future where every Bahamian can thrive.

The Rebirth of Pride Bahamas started 6 years ago now we’re preparing for our 7 th year Two years ago, during Pride Month 2024, the LGBTQI+ community of The Bahamas made history by organizing our first Human Rights March. We marched for dignity, equality, visibility, and the promise that every Bahamian deserves to live free from discrimination.

The march was more than a moment—it was a movement. It brought together advocates, allies, families, and supporters who believed in a more inclusive Bahamas. As we reflect on this milestone, we celebrate the courage of those who showed up, spoke out, and helped pave the way for future generations.

Our history. Our voices. Our rights. Our future. 🏳️‍🌈🇧🇸
