Bahamas Protected Areas Fund The BPAF seeks to fund an effectively managed national PAs system via grants to local PA managers.

The BNPAS seeks to build a Sustainable National Marine Protected Area Network for The Bahamas and thus enable it to meet its commitments under the Convention of Biological Diversity) CBD Programme of Work for Protected Areas (PoWPA).The BNPAS also seeks to conserve globally important marine habitats and species within The Bahamas as well as species important to the wider Caribbean that rely on The

Bahamas as well as expanding the protected area coverage of globally significant marine biodiversity and increase the management effectiveness of the national marine protected areas network. The Protected Areas System must also develop a sustainable financing mechanism, which will benefit both present and future protected areas into perpetuity. For this purpose the Bahamas Protected Areas Fund (BPAF) Bill was drafted and includes the vertical agreement to accommodate the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund (CBF) and other donors, both local and international from whom donations may be received.

BPAF is pleased to introduce our three new professionals who have joined our team!

1. Ms. Jade Bethel - Communications Officer

Jade will lead our efforts in strategic communications, public relations, stakeholder engagement, and information dissemination. With experience in communications management, content development, and media relations, she will play a key role in strengthening our visibility, promoting our initiatives, and ensuring effective communication with our partners and stakeholders.

2. Ms. Jordan Hutcheson - Ethics & Compliance Officer

Jordan will be responsible for promoting ethical conduct, regulatory compliance, and organizational integrity. She will support the implementation of policies and procedures that uphold the highest standards of accountability and governance. Her expertise in compliance management, risk mitigation, and ethical oversight will strengthen our commitment to transparency and responsible operations.

3. Ms. Lethera Sweeting - Monitoring & Evaluation Officer

In this role, Lethera will oversee the development and implementation of our monitoring and evaluation system to track our overall program performance and outcomes. With a strong background in data analysis, results measurement, and performance reporting, Lethera will help ensure that our programs remain effective, evidence-based, and impactful.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, Management, and Staff of the Bahamas Protected Areas Fund, we extend warm congratulations to Prime Minister, the Right Hon. Philip “Brave” Davis and the Progressive Liberal Party, on your return to office following elections last evening.

We commend the democratic process demonstrated throughout the election period and were especially encouraged to witness fair, peaceful, and equitable elections continue to prevail within our nation. Such democratic maturity reflects the enduring strength of our institutions and the commitment of the Bahamian people to good governance and national progress.
