What a meaningful way to celebrate International HR Day!

SHRM Bahamas proudly hosted our May Monthly Meeting last week on the topic, “Synergy Over Silos: How HR, Finance & Leadership Can Partner to Build a Financially Resilient Workforce.” It was a timely and impactful discussion centered on how cross-functional collaboration can strengthen both organizations and employee well-being.

Moderated by Lashanta Smith, our distinguished panelists Dameeka Roberts, Deanza Brennen, and Melissa Minns shared practical insights on compensation, benefits, financial literacy, and leadership alignment. The discussion explored how organizations can move beyond viewing compensation solely as a retention tool and instead build strategies that support long-term financial wellness and workforce resilience.

Thank you to our moderator, panelists, attendees, and our sponsor FirstCare Medical for making this discussion impactful and to everyone who joined us in recognizing International HR Day.

As we closed out the month of May, this discussion served as a strong reminder that true organizational success happens when leaders work together, think beyond policies and focus on holistic employee support.

We were proud to partner with Coralisle Group Ltd. last weekend to deliver a timely and impactful conversation on “Burnout to Balance: Simple Strategies to Restore Energy & Focus,” led by Corporate Wellness Coach, Melissa Major.

In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, the session served as a strong reminder that well-being is not a luxury; it is a leadership responsibility.

Participants explored the realities of burnout, including its stages, and more importantly, practical ways to reset. The conversation emphasized a critical shift: effective leadership starts with self-leadership. When we intentionally manage our energy, set boundaries, and create systems that support focus and recovery, we are better positioned to lead and support our teams.

Beyond the conversation, attendees experienced wellness in action, with an engaging yoga session to reset both mind and body, and refreshing smoothies to fuel and recharge.

Thank you to our speaker, sponsor, and all attendees for contributing to such an engaging and impactful experience!

SHRM Bahamas was proud to partner with the National Tripartite Council and key stakeholders in observance of World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2026, contributing to the discussion on “Creating Healthy Psychosocial Working Environments in The Bahamas” on April 28, 2026.

As workplaces continue to evolve, our approach to safety must also expand. It’s no longer just about physical conditions; it’s about how employees experience work each day.

The discussion raised important questions:

Are workloads manageable?
Do employees feel supported, especially during mental health challenges?
Is there clarity in roles and expectations?
Do people feel safe to speak up?
Are leaders equipped to support their teams effectively?

These are not minor issues. These issues directly affect how people work and how organizations perform.

This year’s focus, led by the ILO, highlights the need to be intentional about how we lead, structure work, and support our teams.

The next step is turning these conversations into real, consistent action.
