Celebrating another JA Achiever staying active, learning and growing this summer!

Congratulations to Daniel Longe, President of Global Tech in the 2025/2026 JA Company Programme, who participated in the Grand Bahama Port Authority’s inaugural SEED Youth Innovation & Entrepreneurship Summer Camp— and walked away a winner!

Daniel went on to represent Grand Bahama in the Tourism Development Corporation’s Student Innovation Competition in Nassau, where he secured $5,000 in funding for his business idea.

From Summer Camp to $5,000 Win: SEED is Building Grand Bahama's Next Generation of Innovators

We're proud to spotlight a standout success story from the Grand Bahama Port Authority's SEED (STEM Empowerment Educational Development) program.

Daniel Longe joined SEED's inaugural Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Summer Camp last year as a participant. Our team recognized his potential early — and continued mentoring him well beyond the five-day camp experience.

That investment paid off. Daniel went on to represent Grand Bahama — as the sole participant from the island — in the Tourism Development Corporation's Student Innovation Competition in Nassau, presenting a business concept tied to the Green, Blue and Orange Economies. He secured $5,000 in funding for his idea.

As Derek Newbold, GBPA's Chief Investment Officer, shared: "Daniel's progression from SEED participant to successfully securing funding through a national innovation competition demonstrates the value of combining technical exposure with mentorship, entrepreneurship and practical business development."

This is the vision behind SEED: a development platform that goes beyond STEM alone — incorporating entrepreneurship, financial literacy and investment to help young people understand how ideas become viable opportunities.

Daniel's story is proof of what's possible when potential meets the right support system. And with the 2026 SEED Youth Innovation & Entrepreneurship Academy kicking off today, we're excited to help write many more stories like his.

Grand Bahama registration is now open for the JA Company Programme!

Designed for students in Grades 9–12, the programme gives young people hands-on experience in entrepreneurship, leadership, financial literacy, marketing and business operations.

Students will have the opportunity to develop ideas, work as a team, build real-world business skills and gain experience they can carry into their future.

Ready to make an impact in Grand Bahama?

JA Bahamas is seeking committed volunteers to help guide, mentor and inspire young people through the JA Company Programme.

As a volunteer, you’ll have the opportunity to:
✨ Strengthen your leadership, coaching and public speaking skills
✨ Expand your professional network through schools and the business community
✨ Gain valuable volunteer and community service experience
✨ Access training and professional development opportunities
✨ Receive a Certificate of Appreciation upon successful completion
✨ Be recognised at JA events and volunteer appreciation activities

Volunteers should be at least 21 years old, dependable, professional, comfortable working with young people and able to commit approximately two hours per week for six to eight months.

Weekly student sessions, preparation time and occasional special events may also be required.

No prior teaching experience is necessary. Training and programme materials will be provided.

Big lessons can start early. 💙

Through the JA Elementary Learning Experience, students are being introduced to real-world ideas in a way they can understand, enjoy and remember.

For Toneece, the programme helped her learn about interest and what it means to own your own business — important concepts that can help children begin to understand money, responsibility, entrepreneurship and future opportunities.

These lessons give students more than information. They help build confidence, curiosity and the belief that they can create, lead and one day own something of their own.

We are proud to see our young learners thinking big and discovering how the world of business and money works, one lesson at a time. ✨

Learning is even more powerful when students get to experience it for themselves. 💙

This year, students at Stapledon School explored important lessons in family, self-awareness, the region, banking and entrepreneurship through the JA Bahamas programme.

“It was a joy to see our students learning by doing. From selling hotdogs to opening bank accounts, they were able to experience important lessons in a way that was fun, practical and meaningful.”

For the Senior students, one of the highlights was putting entrepreneurship into action with their very own Hotdog Sales Day, where they sold fully loaded hotdogs to the school twice a week. Through this experience, students practiced responsibility, teamwork, customer service, planning and confidence.

They also took an important step in financial literacy by opening bank accounts at the Post Office Bank, helping them connect money lessons to real life.

We are proud to celebrate our Stapledon students and the many ways they are learning, growing and preparing for the future. ✨
