Most recently I had the wonderful opportunity to speak at the Ministry Of Youth Sports and Culture to a group of young promising individuals about "The Power Of Conflict".
Initially, I didn't know what to think of making a presentation on this kind of subject matter because; I felt that like most things we as human beings do, we do it first, before we're able understand and manage it well (particularly conflict).
Much to my surprise, the presentation went quite well (or so I was told lol) and the energy and enthusiasm in the room made it very intriguing and fun.
However, I can't deny the feeling that we as a nation all share a felt need for this kind of conversation about conflict (particularly considering the crime and violence). Its obvious that we Bahamains have developed traits that has made us cold and sinister towards each other. We often show no empathy and concern for our neighbors well-being and; have become flagrantly disrespectful to each others space and property. All of which I wholeheartedly believe is a byproduct of not knowing how to engage, manage and resvolve conflict properly.
As our nation is approaching its 50th, I can't shake the feeling that we are acting more like a 5 year old (collectively as a nation) rather than a seasoned and matured adult (celebrating its 50th birthday) is suppose to be.
Nonetheless, the experience was truly an awesome one for me and I extremely grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the next gen. Special thanks to the Ministry and their wonderful team.
To Be the Glory!
Ps. I will send out a link giving pointers on how to deal to identify, deal and win over conflict soon. Stay tuned!
