“Bahamian Income Tax”
Yesterday, the Choose Progress Party (PLP) through the Department of Inland Revenue (DIR) announced that it will be imposing a new tax ID called “One Tax Bahamas” that is scheduled to be implemented on September 1st 2026.
Coalition of Independents and leader Lincoln Bain has released a Press Statement on the matter condemning the Davis Administration on its reckless and secretive attempts to force a new Bahamas Identification Number called (BIN) without consultation or legislation authorizing its full scope.
Before the election, the Coalition of Independents warned the Bahamian people that once the votes were counted, this Government would begin laying the groundwork for income tax. The election is now over, and the machinery is being put in place.
We believe that BIN may be the opening move—the taxpayer spine—upon which a future personal income-tax regime will be built.
The Bahamian people must therefore treat this as an unmistakable warning that income tax is on the horizon unless the public stands up now and demands complete transparency.
COI leader Lincoln Bain is calling on the Minister Responsible for Finance Micheal Halkits and Prime Minister Philip Edward Brave Davis to issue an unequivocal undertaking that this PLP Progress administration will not introduce personal income payroll tax or any equivalent tax on the earnings of Bahamian workers.
