Friday, February 20th ’s list of events began with two official visits. Frist, Governor Cynthia led a team of Kiwanians on a courtesy call to Mrs. Shanta Knowles, the first female Commissioner of Police for The Bahamas and a Distinguished President from the Kiwanis Club of Cable Beach. After, the group visited the Office of the Spouse of The Prime Minister of the Bahamas, where Lady Ann-Marie Davis welcomed and thanked Kiwanians for all they do to better The Bahamas.
Early afternoon on Friday was spent in service with our SLP students. A soursop tree was planted at the Sybil Strachan Primary school with K-Kids, and a beautification project followed at D.W. Davis Jr. High with Builders Club members. At the second project, Kiwanians gathered to support our future leaders who pulled weeds, raked pebbles, collected debris for disposal, and planted new flowers.
Friday evening was a time of fellowship and celebration. LG Joan hosted a Division Interclub to formally gather Kiwanians from the division. Additionally, this event served as the perfect opportunity to hold the official charter ceremony of Kiwanis Club Voices-Nova Bahamas, the district’s first voices club! Governor thanked Kiwanians for their service and presented tokens of appreciation to members serving at the district level.
On Saturday, February 21, Governor Cynthia and a team of Kiwanians traveled to Eleuthera Island to commune with our three Kiwanis clubs on that island. Governor got a firsthand experience with the Kiwanis Club of Central Eleuthera’s Signature Project, “Playing in the Garden”. The team of volunteers upcycled tires, which they branded with the ‘K’ seal, and planted new trees. Participating SLP students had an opportunity to show off their talent and creativity through painting art pieces that could be displayed in the garden. Additionally, checks were done on the raised plant beds that already contained freshly grown produce.
Sunday, February 22nd began with a church service at the historic Christ Church Cathedral, an Anglican edifice whose structure dates to 1670. Scores of Kiwanians turned out for this service which featured greetings from Governor Cynthia and a presentation to the church’s Children’s Ministry from Division 22.
