A school assignment about how her own brain works has made a middle schooler a published author. Azaria L. D. Bethel, 10, has co-written a children's guide to ADHD with her mother, Bahamian attorney and author Agatha D. Bethel — and the book is now on shelves in Nassau and Eleuthera and available worldwide on Amazon.

The guys behind Bahamas Chess Federation’s Open Team silver medal at the 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad! 🥈✨🇧🇸♟️👏 It’s the first medal at the Olympiad for our Nation.

OPEN TEAM comprises:

Dr. Nicholas Johnson - Board 1
CM Kendrick Knowles - Board 2
Philip Hanna Jr. - Board 3
Avian Pride - Board 4
William Davis - Board 5

By the end of the 11 rounds, Johnson earned an FM title while Pride and Davis earned CM titles, respectively.

This Team was coached by Head Coach & Team Captain, CM Elton Joseph and Team Trainer, FIDE Master Winston Cu Hor.

HISTORY MADE 🇧🇸✨♟️Nicholas Johnson ended his first Olympiad with an impressive 7/10 points! He scored the highest amount ever for a Bahamian on Board 1 and was the second highest scoring member of the 10 member Team at this year’s Olympiad. ✨

Nicholas earned a CM title mid-tournament, then continued on to earn an FM title by Round 11! He is the 2nd Bahamian to EVER achieve the FIDE Master Title, which he has earned provisionally until he achieves a 2100 FIDE rating.

Nicholas had 6 victories against Uruguay, Vanuatu, Guam, Cambodia, Somalia and Curaçao plus 2 draws against Greenland and Papua New Guinea.✨

Due to his stellar performance, Nicholas significantly contributed to the Open Team’s silver medal win! This medal was the first ever medal won by Team Bahamas at the Olympiad.🥈✨👏

Nicholas Johnson is an example to Bahamians of all ages of what is possible through hardwork, passion and determination.

HISTORY MADE🇧🇸✨At just 15 years old, Chika Pride ended with an astonishing 8/10 points after achieving 7 full point victories against Laos, Cayman Islands, Bhutan, Jersey, Senegal, Sudan and Guyana plus 2 draws against Maldives and Tunisia.
She was also the highest scoring member of the full, male and females 10 member team!✨

Chika lost only one game (Round 1) and did not lose a game again! She set a record for the highest score a Bahamian has EVER scored in an Olympiad!🏆

Chika earned the WFM title provisionally culminating her stellar performance at the 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad (i.e. Awarded automatically once her FIDE rating officially reaches 1900). This rating is very much within reach for her.

She earned 23 rating points at this Olympiad and has now passed the 1800 mark making her only the 2nd Bahamian female ever to have an ELO over 1800 at 15 years old. This is Chika Pride’s 4th time representing the country at this prestigious tournament!

Chika played and excelled through the last 5 rounds while battling a chest infection that caused fever and breathing issues. We applaud her for her dedication, resilience and formidable spirit!💪

Because of her exceptional performance in the sport, it’s clear that Chika will be an inspiration to many youth across the Bahamas and beyond for years to come.
