You are welcomed to join us every Friday, 6:30pm at The University of The Bahamas, Room B-27! Toastmasters International (TI), “where leaders are made”, is a nonprofit educational organization that develops the inner speaker and leader in individuals worldwide. This program operates clubs worldwide for three

main purposes:

1) Helping members improve their communication skills
2) Helping members improve their public speaking skills
3) Helping members improve their leadership skills. These members improve their speaking and leadership skills by attending one of the 14,350 clubs in 122 countries that make up our global network

Toastmasters’ meetings are a learn-by-doing workshop in which participants hone their speaking and leadership skills in a no-pressured atmosphere. A typical group has 15 to 35 members who meet weekly, bi-weekly or monthly. A typical meeting lasts 60–90 minutes. There is no instructor in a Toastmasters meeting. Instead, members evaluate one another’s presentations. This feedback process is a key part of the program’s success. Meeting participants also give impromptu talks on assigned topics, conduct meetings and develop skills related to timekeeping, grammar and parliamentary procedures. The Toastmasters programme is built on practice. The more you do something under defined conditions, the better you get at it. Luminaries Toastmasters was founded in 2010 by Ms. Sashane McDonald as the U.W.I Toastmasters. From its humbled beginnings, she helped to mold the club into what it is today. She served as the President of the Club that founding year (2010-2011). Following her footsteps were:
Ms. Tamar Moss (2011-2012),
Ms. Keisha Kerr (2012-2013) ,
Mr. Franklyn Donaldson (2013-2014),
Ms. Samantha Munnings (2014-2015),
Mr. Ernesto Williams (2015-2016),and presently
Mr. Lorenzo Carey (2016-2017). For the past 6 years, the club has been a President Distinguish Club. Presently, the club is working to maintain the legacy under Mr. Carey’s direction. If you wish to become a part of the family, don’t hesitate. It’s as simple as visiting one of our meetings and expressing your desire! One of our members will be sure to assist you!
