Introducing new member, Chris Wells!

Chris was raised in the small town of Mangrove Bush, Long Island, in a time of no electricity and unreliable running water. He spent his youth running through the bushes and playing in the shallow waters of the sound. Growing up, he attended church regularly with his maternal grandmother and eventually became an altar boy at St. John’s Anglican Church. Some of his favorite childhood memories are of gathering firewood for his paternal grandmother to cook pea soup and bake fresh bread in an oven over the fire. Saturdays were spent fishing on the rocks or spearing crawfish along the shallow reefs on the north side of Long Island.

In high school, he developed a passion for math and science, which led him to pursue a career in engineering. He graduated from The College of the Bahamas with an Associate of Arts in pre-engineering and received the School of Technology Award for best in class. After working in engineering for two years, he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, summa cm laude, from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. He returned to The Bahamas to begin practicing structural engineering, becoming the first applicant to pass the engineer’s exam through the local Board’s proxy arrangement with North Carolina.

In 2012, he met his wife, Angie, and they tied the knot in 2015. Together, they have a son and two daughters. He spends his days ensuring that the children receive the best education while also experiencing the joy of developing passions outside of school. His hobbies include boating, diving, and sailing. The salt is ingrained in his veins, and he would not want to live anywhere other than the beautiful Bahamas.

Throughout the years, he has consistently volunteered with the Long Islanders Association and helped with the Long Island Regatta whenever possible. His son, at just 10 years old, is quickly becoming a top junior sailor in the single-person Optimist as well as the E-Class sloop.

Welcome to the Rotary Club of East Nassau, Chris Wells!
