A Day in the Life of Lady! 🌴

Beach walks, golf cart adventures, splashing in the sea and plenty of playtime… Lady has been making the most of island life!

She’s growing more confident in the water, loves having company on her adventures and has been incredibly gentle and kind with little Gypsy, our latest rescue

It’s lovely to see her confidence growing and her playful personality shining through!

Lady and her sisters, the L Pups are all available for adoption and looking for loving homes of their own. If you’d like to know more about any of these lovely girls, please get in touch! 🩷🐾

Yesterday was one of those very long BAR days…

At the crack of dawn, Lisa A and Taylin set off with Angel and Uno — water taxi from Harbour Island, hire car, then the long drive down Eleuthera to Rock Sound to see Dr Sands. Nearly three hours of travelling each way, with a full day at the clinic in between.

Angel needed surgery to remove her tumour. There were a few worrying moments, but thankfully it was successfully removed and our lovely girl is doing well. ❤️

Uno travelled down for X-rays so we could finally understand the extent of his injuries. Sadly, the results were much more serious than we had hoped. Part of his spine has been crushed, fused and twisted, affecting his nerve function. Both hips are badly damaged and his injured back foot is unable to bear weight.

It’s a lot to take in, especially knowing how far this little boy has already come. For now, we need some time to digest everything and work with the vets to decide what will give Uno the happiest, most comfortable future. We’ll keep you updated.

A huge thank you to Lisa and Taylin for such a long day, and to Dr Sands and her team for taking such wonderful care of our BAR babies.

These are the days you don’t always see — the early starts, water taxis, long drives, surgeries and X-rays.

But they’re our rescues and we love them! ❤️

Yesterday, this tiny little potcake was rescued from the middle of the road, where sadly her sibling had been hit by a car and didn’t make it. 💔

But in the middle of something so sad came such kindness…

A wonderful gentleman called Chris stopped and rescued her. This morning he took her to Dr. Sands to be checked over, and then drove two hours to Three Island Dock so that we could meet him and bring her back to BAR. We are so incredibly grateful to you, Chris. 🤍

Thankfully, she tested clear for parvo and, apart from the usual fleas and worms, we’re confident that with plenty of food, love and care, she is going to flourish.

She’s barely five weeks old and weighs just 3 lb 2 oz. Lisa has given her medicine, a much-needed bath and got rid of those pesky fleas, and tonight she’ll settle into shelter life — warm, fed, safe and loved.

For now, this tiny girl can simply be a puppy while she grows stronger and waits for the day her forever family finds her. 🐾❤️

Sometimes one person stopping to help really can change the course of a little life. Thank you, Chris!

And perhaps someone reading this will be the next person to change her life — by giving this sweet little girl the forever home she deserves 🤍🐾

Uno got wheels!!!

Uno came to BAR earlier in the year in heartbreaking condition — paralysed, severely malnourished and anaemic, covered in fleas and ticks and full of worms. One of his back paws had also been badly injured, leaving him with just one toe — hence the name Uno.

At first, he couldn’t walk and relied on us for almost everything. But with good nutrition, lots of care and plenty of love, little by little Uno began to move again.

Today, he can get himself up and outside to go to the bathroom. He’s still very wobbly and sometimes takes a tumble, but considering where he started, his progress has been quite incredible!

We believe Uno may have suffered a spinal cord injury, and on October 6th he’ll have X-rays to help us understand exactly what’s going on and how best to help him.

And today was a rather exciting day — Uno’s very own wheelchair arrived! 🥹 He’s just beginning to learn how to use it, and we’re hoping that, together with physiotherapy, it will help him grow stronger and give him a little more freedom.

Uno’s planned adoption sadly fell through, which means this very special little boy is still looking for his forever home. Until the right person comes along, he is safe, loved and very well cared for here with us at BAR 🤍

He’s already come such a long way — and we have a feeling Uno has plenty more surprises in store!! 🐾

Meet Angel 🤍

Angel was left chained up in our entrance a few months ago, an older girl who needed a little extra love and care.

Since arriving at BAR, Angel has also had to undergo treatment for heartworm, and in a few weeks’ time she’ll be heading off to see the wonderful Dr. Sands to have a tumour removed. We’ll be right there with her through her treatment and recovery.

At BAR, it isn’t only puppies who find their way through our doors. We also take in older dogs — dogs who may have been overlooked, who are unwell, or who simply need someone to step in and give them the care they deserve.

Sometimes that means medication and veterinary treatment. Sometimes it means surgery. And very often, it means giving an older dog the chance to feel safe, comfortable and loved again.

Angel is one of those special souls, and we’re so happy she found her way to us. 🐾

As always, none of this would be possible without the people who support BAR. Your donations allow us to say yes to dogs like Angel when they need us most.

We’ll keep you updated on our lovely girl as she gets ready for her surgery and when she is ready to find a home! 🤍

Dog licensing laws are now being enforced in The Bahamas, and all dogs 3 months and older must be licensed.

📋 Spayed/neutered dogs can be licensed FREE with verification
📋 Dogs not fixed — $10 + VAT

Microchipping is quick, simple and gives your dog permanent identification — helping them find their way home if they ever get lost.

Call or WhatsApp BAR on 553-5395 to arrange microchipping or book into one of our free spay & neuter clinics.

We’re looking for someone who:

• Genuinely loves and cares about animals
• Is patient, compassionate and observant
• Is comfortable handling both dogs and cats
• Is physically fit and happy with hands-on work
• Can follow instructions and safety procedures carefully
• Is organised, dependable and communicates well
• Is willing to learn and be part of a small, dedicated team

This is a hands-on role helping with the daily care, wellbeing and happiness of the animals at our shelter.

🐾 Happy Tails for Skipper! 🐾

Our hearts are so full to share that Skipper has found his forever home! ❤️

This gorgeous boy has been adopted by a wonderful family who completely fell in love with him, and we couldn’t be happier. Watching our rescue dogs find the loving homes they deserve is what it’s all about!

Wishing Skipper and his new family a lifetime of adventures, cuddles, and unconditional love. Thank you for opening your hearts and giving him the happy ending he so deserved. 🏡✨

Happy life, sweet Skipper — we’ll miss you, but this is exactly what we’ve all been hoping for. 💙🐶

When Uno first came into our care, his condition was truly heartbreaking. He was missing most of his back paw, painfully malnourished, weak, and hardly able to move.

But thanks to the quick action, love, and dedication of Lisa Albury, Uno was given a second chance at life. Day by day, with proper care, treatment, nourishment, and kindness, he slowly began to heal. Lisa even brought him home with her each night to keep a close eye on him

Over the past few days, Uno has joined us on little outings to soaking up love, fresh air, and discovering what it feels like to simply be a dog.

And now… we are overjoyed to share the wonderful news that Uno has found his forever home and will soon be heading to the US to begin his beautiful new chapter. His new name is Briland!

Stories like Unos are only possible because of the incredible support system behind Briland Animal Rescue — our volunteers, our donors, Dr. Sands, and the tireless compassion of Lisa Albury, who never gives up on the animals who need her most.

Some stories stay with you forever… and Buzz will always be one of them 💙🐾

Buzz arrived at the Shelter at just 3 weeks old, packed into a cardboard box alongside his 6 siblings. They quickly became known as the “Poopsters” — tiny, messy little babies we all completely fell in love with!

Buzz was the very last of the litter to find his forever home, which made yesterday all the more emotional. Thanks to Hailey — who so often helps transport rescue animals — we were connected with her friend Sam, who instantly felt like the perfect match for our sweet boy.

Lisa A and I took Buzz over to Eleuthera to meet his new dad… and yes, there were tears- bittersweet comes to mind!

But more than anything, we are just so happy! Happy that this tiny puppy who arrived with nothing but his siblings in a cardboard box is now heading off to live the beautiful life he deserves :-)

Live your best life, Buzz boy… we will miss you so very much 🤍🐾
