📍Međunarodni dan ljudskih prava obilježava se svakog 10. decembra, na dan kada je potpisana Opća deklaracija o ljudskim pravima 1948. godine kojim je po prvi put u historiji čovječanstva priznato pravo svih ljudi na “život, slobodu i sigurnost bez ikakvih razlika”.

📍Donošenje Univerzalne deklaracije o ljudskim pravima je ključni datum u modernoj historiji. Ovim dokumentom se štite građanske, političke, ekonomske, socijalne i kulturne slobode i prava čovjeka – od prava na život i slobodu do prava na dostojanstvo, privatnost, socijalnu sigurnost i udruživanje.

📣Zadaća je svakog pojedinca, kao i zajednice u cjelini, raditi na afirmaciji ljudskih prava i izgradnji društva jednakih mogućnosti. Zadaća je svih nas da se zauzmemo za poštivanje ljudskih prava i osiguramo jednak pristup uživanju temeljnih ljudskih prava svim članovima društva, bez obzira na državljanstvo, prebivalište, spol, dob, nacionalno ili društveno porijeklo, boju kože, vjeru, jezik, ili bilo koji drugi status.

A champion of women’s rights and equality, a true “shero” has been lost. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s influence on American politics and modern culture inspired women in the United States and throughout the world.
RIP RBG.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the second woman to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court, died today of pancreatic cancer at the age of 87. One of the Court's main advocates for advancing women's rights under the law, Ginsburg was famous for breaking gender barriers and delivering searing dissents. Appointed to the Court in 1993, she served more than 27 years, at times as the lone woman on the Court. From the time she entered Harvard Law School in 1956 as one of nine women in a class of 500, Ginsburg was a pioneering advocate for women's rights. As she once observed in an interview: "I was a law school teacher, and that's how I regard my role here with my colleagues [on the Court], who haven't had the experience of growing up female and don't fully appreciate the arbitrary barriers that have been put in women's way."

To commemorate 100 years since the passing of the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution, which granted women the right to vote, the original torch of the Statue of Liberty will be lit in the colors of the National Women’s Party flag: purple, white and gold. According to members of the National Woman's Party, the color gold was described as “the color of light and life, is as the torch that guides our purpose, pure and unswerving.” Purple represented “the color of loyalty, constancy to purpose, unswerving steadfastness to a cause.”

The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World carries her light forward much like the light that carried forward the suffrage movement of the 1800's and early 1900's. On this monumental occasion, other National Park sites will also share in the initiative by lighting structures purple and gold.
