If any zoo cannot provide an environment that truly meets the physical, psychological, and behavioral needs of the animals in its care, then it should not continue to operate. No animal deserves to spend its life in conditions that compromise its well-being.

Conservation should never be used to justify unnecessary suffering. If Tennoji Zoo cannot uphold the highest standards of animal welfare, then it should be reformed—or, if necessary, closed.

A nation’s greatness is reflected not only in how it treats its people, but also in how it treats those who cannot speak for themselves.

Wild animals belong in the wild. They deserve dignity, respect, and freedom.
To me, is a reminder that it’s time to question whether zoos still have a place in the modern world.

Seeing wild animals confined to enclosures that are far removed from their natural habitats raises an important question: are they truly living, or merely surviving for human entertainment?

No cage can replace a forest. No concrete wall can replace freedom. Wild animals were never meant to spend their lives behind barriers for our amusement.

I believe the world would be a better place without zoos that keep wild animals in captivity for display. True conservation should focus on protecting natural habitats, rescuing and rehabilitating wildlife, and allowing animals to live where they truly belong—not behind glass, steel, and concrete.

The measure of our humanity is not how many animals we can exhibit, but how much freedom and dignity we are willing to give them.

Freedom is not a privilege granted by humans. It is the birthright of every living being.

O Move Institute iniciou uma campanha contra comércio de peles o patê de ganso (foie gras), levando ao então prefeito Fernando Haddad, em 2015, 60 mil assinaturas e um dossiê detalhando o horror da gastronomia sórdida e perversa que é o foie gras.

Diversas organizações apoiaram a causa, como a FAOS, atual Grupo269, o Movimento Não Mate, o Movimento Crueldade Nunca Mais e Luisa Mell.

Nesse episódio, infelizmente ONGs despreparadas enviaram cartas aos restaurantes que vendiam a iguaria antes mesmo da lei ser sancionada, o que gerou uma liminar que barrou a vitória.

Anos de luta, finalmente a discussão voltou à mesa dos parlamentares, e desta vez foi sancionada.

No manifesto Adriana Greco e Danielle Simões ativistas da ONG Move e Adriana Pierin entregando as assinaturas na Prefeitura ao Haddad, que naquele momento sancionou apenas o comércio de peles, após mais de 5 anos de luta em eventos de moda, comoção pública e envolvimento de mais de 200 personalidades da moda, arte e design, música.

Eternamente gratas a todos envolvidos que mudaram a história dos animais mais uma vez.

Zoológicos são torturadores de animais?
Até quando animais serão humilhados e confinados para entreter humanos sadicos e sem percepção?

EcoNews en Español 🚨 Nuevo capítulo en el caso del Zoo Bal Park de Montecarlo, Misiones.

🩺 Tras la clausura preventiva y las denuncias por las condiciones de los animales, el Ministerio de Ecología impulsó una visita técnica conjunta para que especialistas de Centro de Rescate de Fauna Silvestre pudieran ingresar al predio y evaluar la situación.

🐒 Según informó la organización, el objetivo era revisar el estado de salud de los animales, identificar casos urgentes y elaborar un plan de bienestar.

🚫 Sin embargo, la ONG aseguró que los propietarios del establecimiento se negaron a permitir el ingreso del equipo técnico al predio.

⚖️ Frente a esta situación, la organización presentó una denuncia penal y solicitó la intervención judicial del lugar para que profesionales puedan acceder a los animales, evaluar su estado sanitario y definir medidas urgentes para los casos más críticos.

📍Actualmente hay más de 400 animales en el establecimiento.

🏛️Las actuaciones del Ministerio hasta ahora fueron de carácter administrativo y las decisiones sobre una eventual intervención quedaron en manos de la Justicia.

Centros de tortura e sofrimento.

A Crueldade Velada no Zoológico de Sorocaba e a Omissão Cúmplice do Poder
Público

Nós, organizações não governamentais, protetores independentes e cidadãos comprometidos com a defesa da vida animal, vimos a público expressar nosso mais profundo e veemente repúdio à situação alarmante e inaceitável em que se encontram os animais do Parque Zoológico Municipal “Quinzinho de Barros”,
em Sorocaba, e à postura conivente de autoridades que deveriam fiscalizar e proteger.

É com imensa decepção que nos dirigimos à Vereadora Jussara Fernandes. A senhora, que se elegeu com a bandeira da causa animal, parece ter virado as costas para aqueles que não podem se defender.

Sua recente reunião a portas fechadas com a administração do zoológico, os mesmos que perpetuam a exploração, sem a presença de ONGs e protetores que genuinamente lutam
pelos animais, não apenas soa como traição, mas desmascara um alinhamento preocupante com o discurso oficial que tenta encobrir o horror.

rights.project We imagine the first thing our elephant client Zuri felt wasn’t the warmth of her mother, but the cold, hard press of a concrete floor. 🐘⚖️

Under the fluorescent lights of the Pittsburgh Zoo’s elephant barn, a newborn Zuri wobbled on unsteady legs. She didn't know about metal chains or zoo schedules yet; she only knew the low, vibrating rumble of her mother, Moja, anxiously calling to her from behind metal bars.

Elephants are famous for their memories. We often wonder what Zuri carries with her:

▪️ The 17 years spent in the same concrete stalls.
▪️ The day her mother was taken away and shipped to a zoo across the country.
▪️ The dreams of vast forests and soft earth her ancestors walked for generations.

This year, Zuri was transferred to the zoo’s breeding facility—treated as no more than inventory rather than an autonomous being. But we’re fighting to change her story.

This month, the NhRP filed a new habeas corpus petition for Zuri and her sister, Victoria, who was transferred to the same breeding facility. We’re demanding the courts recognize their right to liberty and order their release to a sanctuary where this right will be respected.

Help us write a new chapter for Zuri—one that ends in freedom, not concrete. ⚖️ All gifts made to the NhRP right now are being doubled thanks to a group of generous donors!
