The Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) has released the tournament bracket and participating teams for the 2026 WFTDA Championships, hosted by Crime City Rollers in Malmö, Sweden, October 15-18. This year Championships are bigger than ever, with four days of top-level competition between 16 teams.

This competitive season ran from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2026, with the top-ranked teams from each competitive region competing in our 2026 Regional Playoffs and Championships.

By reviewing rankings data and game footage, WFTDA’s Calibration Panel (a panel of two representatives from each competitive region) awarded Championships bids based on comparative strength of each region, as well as bracket placement for the Playoffs winners.

Tickets and watch passes are on sale now, and you’ll find all the information you need on the event on our 2026 Championships page on WFTDA Tournament Central.

We look forward to seeing these teams and these thrilling matchups across the four days of competition. We are excited to release this bracket!

WFTDA is delighted to announce that for the first time ever the WFTDA Championships will have multiple streams, providing commentary to the audience at home in English, French, Swedish and Spanish.

This is a first for WFTDA and we are excited to be working in partnership with Real Time Events to deliver this opportunity. This exciting expansion of WFTDA stream provision has been due to the work of the Announcing Development Committee and committed announcers across the world, developing resources, opportunities and experience to widen the pool of announcers.

As the WFTDA continues to grow and evolve, so does the work of ensuring our organization reflects the community it serves. Over the coming winter, the Board of Directors will be engaging our membership in a broader organizational values and priorities initiative to better understand where our community is today and where we want to go together. This work will help inform future strategic planning, educational opportunities, programs, and organizational initiatives so they are grounded in the needs and values of our membership.

While that larger effort is still to come, one important conversation is already underway. The Naming Committee has begun exploring whether our organization’s name continues to reflect who we are as a diverse and evolving community. This project represents an opportunity to consider how our name communicates our values and welcomes everyone who contributes to our sport.

We encourage everyone to participate in the on-going and future conversations that will help guide our organization into its next stages.

With playoffs concluded and trans athletes being shut out of spaces across the sports world, we’ve been thinking about how to do something more meaningful than a single social media post. Rather than putting out a statement, we want to do something that is a greater indicator of our values as an organization.

So we are running the “Why I Play” series throughout the entire playoff season highlighting trans skaters on participating teams and what they want people to know about trans athletes right now.
