Barrett and Cory’s story comes full circle in Tehachapi. In 2019, they were among the first to participate in JR’s projects inside the maximum security prison. Today, they are changed men. Since their release, their commitment has only grown and they have now become the faces leading our new Prison Art Program. We’re so grateful for their dedication and excited to expand the program, giving more previously incarcerated people the chance to lead, create, and give back.

Summer Camp at !✨☀
Last week, 30 children aged 6 to 13 took part in Casa Amarela’s summer camp, an initiative that turns the school break into a time for art, creativity and shared experiences.

Through painting, photography workshops, games, movie afternoons and gardening at Largo da Providência, the children explored new forms of expression while strengthening their relationship with one another and with the territory they inhabit.

A huge thank you to all the people who made this magical week possible💛

In 2025, we watched art move through the world and connect people across city streets and classrooms, up favela hillsides, and into prison yards.

Through the , communities from Brazil to Sri Lanka, from Tuvalu to city schools, stepped into public space and told their stories loud and proud — reminding us that visibility is a powerful first step toward change.
At in Rio, creativity continued to shape everyday life: children learning, women building new professional paths, neighbors constructing a new space together — brick by brick — rooted in dignity, care, and possibility.
And through our Prison Art Program, art crossed walls and systems. From going back to Tehachapi to initiating programming in Maine and now beyond the U.S., creative education opened space for reflection, healing, and transformation. The program now reaches more than a million incarcerated people through in-person and digital learning.

This year reminded us that art doesn’t just live on walls. It lives in relationships and in process.

A huge thank you to everyone who walked alongside us and supported us this year.✨We’re carrying these stories forward, and can’t wait to see where they lead in 2026.

A few weeks ago, 37 women graduated from ’s professional training courses in culinary arts, sewing, and Afro hairdressing. 🎓✨

They’ve worked hard, learned new skills, and gained the confidence to build their own futures. Each of them is proof that when women in the favela are given opportunities, they don’t just change their own lives — they strengthen the entire community.

From kitchens to sewing machines, from braids to bold business plans, these graduates are ready to turn passion into independence.

Since 2020, Casa Amarela’s Independent Women of Providência Collective has offered free training in everything from hairdressing to entrepreneurship, culinary arts to computer skills — along with literacy, math, and mental health support. In just four years, we’ve empowered nearly 200 women to turn their talents into sustainable careers, building a stronger Providência.

A powerful return to Tehachapi. In February 2025, we screened the Tehachapi film inside the prison it’s named after, for the very first time. While most of the 159 incarcerated viewers hadn’t participated in the film, many saw their own stories, struggles, and hopes reflected on screen.

After the screening, we invited them to share how it made them feel.
Swipe through to see some interesting findings!

We’re ready to bring Tehachapi to more prisons across the country - if you can help, feel free to reach out to [email protected] 📩

Since the beginning of the year, nearly 6,000 people across 16 countries have participated in the ! In Sri Lanka and Germany, community members gathered in support of people with disabilities. In Portugal, students bridged past and present as they brought their Action to a nursing home, while Tuvalu became the 154th country to join the Inside Out Map! From documenting the largest Indigenous gathering in Brazil to supporting q***r youth in New York City, our Photobooth Truck has made many impactful stops over the last few months. Coming together at the Karl Marx statue, the city of Chemnitz was encouraged to reflect upon its past, while in New York City, the faces of q***r youth were captured during Pride. A huge thank you to all participants who lent their faces to the Project since January!
