Last week, our Kicking for Nature students had the opportunity to attend the Pan American Taekwondo Championships in Rio de Janeiro and experience an international sporting environment filled with athletes from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds.

For many of these young people, moments like this can expand perspectives and strengthen self-belief. This experience was about showing them that they also belong in these spaces, that their dreams are valid, and that they can aim far beyond the limits often imposed on them.

At AJTKD, we believe sport is a powerful tool for education, leadership, sustainability, and climate action. Creating opportunities like this is part of helping young people develop confidence, broaden their horizons, and understand their potential to create positive change in their communities and in the world.

Every experience can inspire a new future.

2025 was a year of movement, learning, and global connection for AJTKD.

From local action to international stages, we strengthened education, community action, and sustainability through martial arts. None of this happens alone. It is built every day by students, families, volunteers, partners, and communities who believe in what we do.

Thank you for being part of this journey. On to 2026. 🥋🌍

🏆 Global Recognition for Kicking for Nature! 🌿

We’re proud to share that our Kicking for Nature project has been named a winner of the 2025 Sport Positive Awards, this time in the Education and Training category!

This marks the second time our initiative has been recognized among the world’s leading sport sustainability projects — a testament to the commitment of our team, volunteers, students, families, and partners who bring this vision to life every day.

Kicking for Nature integrates Taekwondo training with environmental education and community action, empowering young people from underserved areas of Rio de Janeiro to connect sport, learning, and care for the planet.

💚 Our sincere gratitude to Sport Positive for this recognition and to the Yang Won Sun Foundation for believing in and supporting this work.

🌍 Global Recognition for Kicking for Nature!

Once again, we’re among the best in the world! After winning the BBC Green Sport Award in 2022 and the Sport Positive Award in 2024, our project Kicking for Nature has once more been named a finalist — this time at the prestigious Sport Positive Awards 2025, supported by the International Olympic Committee and UN Climate Change.

💚 A huge thank you to our volunteers, partners, students, and families at AJTKD. This recognition belongs to all of us. A special thanks to the Yang Won Sun Foundation for trusting our work!

How can martial arts drive the Sustainable Development Goals? At the UN High-Level Political Forum, we shared answers — and the inspiring work of the Martial Arts Coalition for Sustainable Development and its members.

At the 2025 UN HLPF, martial arts leaders and federations shared how combat sports are driving progress on the SDGs worldwide.

🌱 Celebrating World Environment Week at AJTKD! 🌍

This World Environment Day, our students went beyond their training to connect with nature and learn how their actions can shape a more sustainable future. 💚

✅ We started with a visit to the urban community garden at Madureira Park, set to become the largest in the world! Our students planted new trees and saw how much the ones they planted before have already grown. 🌳

✅ They also joined a special lecture on the Sustainable Development Goals and the importance of protecting our biodiversity. We explored how Taekwondo at AJTKD is deeply connected to caring for the planet, including through our belt promotion activities. 🥋🌎

✅ This year’s World Environment Day focused on plastic pollution, so we held a hands-on workshop on recycling plastic! Students reused PET bottles to create small plant pots, adding soil and seeds to take home and grow. 🌱♻️

✅ To finish, our students traveled to the heart of the Amazon Rainforest — through Virtual Reality! 🌳🦜 With VR glasses, they explored the beauty of our forests and the urgent need to preserve them.

Every step we take — on the mat or in nature — brings us closer to a healthier, more sustainable world. 👣🌏

Thank you to everyone who joined our side event at the 2025 UN Youth Forum!

We were honored to feature 14 remarkable young leaders from different parts of the world-martial artists, coaches, and youth advocates--who are using their voices and actions to build more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable communities. Their contributions reminded us that leadership takes many forms, and that youth are at the heart of meaningful change.

The event also marked the official launch of the Martial Arts Coalition for Sustainable Development (MCS) , a global initiative bringing together organizations committed to social impact through martial arts.

We're grateful to everyone who made this moment possible and look forward to what's ahead!
