Boat is docked safely in Guatemala during hurricane season 🌀 We had an absolutely EPIC season in the Caribbean and Bahamas this past year… can’t wait to share more on all that later. Meanwhile K&S are playa bound tomorrow!! 🚙 ⛺️ 🏜️ 🔥 💃 🕺 🪩 ✨

The infamous, brutal prison of "Devil's Island" ran for 100 years in equatorial French Guiana and closed in 1953... we stopped here for a "rest" enroute to the Caribbean... this place was made famous by the book & movie Papillon. The silver lining in the atrocities of humanity is how much it helps us appreciate our own present moment... suddenly the broken washing machine seemed like truly a trivial issue...

“We have a leak!” Sabrina yelled. That is one of my least favorite phrases to hear on a boat. Especially when we’re at the start of a 3 night passage with nowhere to stop.

So begins our blog post about our 450 nautical mile passage from Brazil to French Guyana, with the extremes of Neptune in full display -- blissful smooth seas, monster equatorial squalls, badass sailor ladies catching fish, mid-ocean muddy Amazon water, and exploding PVC pipes.

How do we find awesome teachers willing to live aboard and travel for months under sail?? Jana is Czech and was riding her bicycle through Venezuela for a few months, ending October '25, and wrote us, "I can see Trinidad in the distance, it's just a ferry ride away!"

It seemed too serendipitous and awesome. So yes! We welcomed her to Nesi for our Caribbean season, sailing from Trinidad & Tobago up to Martinique through countless islands including Grenada, the Grenadines, St. Vincent, and St. Lucia.

We "dipped our toes" sailing into the Amazon Basin for a week -- just 50 miles into the Rio Pará. Here are some images from Soure, a river-town in Ilha Marajó, near the capital of Belém.
1- The horse is swimming /being guided across the river
2- Mural of one of the biggest freshwater fish in the world, the Pirarucu/Arapaima, up to 200 kg! In Amazonian folklore, it’s often portrayed as a powerful or even mythical creature. The cabocla/indigenous woman might represent a river guardian
3- Mural showing river life at the ice cream shop -- our mandatory stop in the equatorial heat
4- Lunch aboard Nesi with Kaitlyn (work trade), Meggane (teacher), and Sabby
5- Riding bikes, seeing the water buffalo, which mysteriously arrived in the Ilha Marajo in the 19th century
6- Ceramic craftsmanship is famous here
7- Hanging ceramics from the wall
8- Dinghy tour of the river tributaries
9- Sunset with the River Boat at the dock

Completing our 8 month Green Coco tour of Brazil in Belem, up the huge Rio Para. It’s been amazing to explore our home country (where Capt K was born) after all these years!
