Yesterday there was a members-only visit to the studio of Carioca artist Monica Carvalho. American Society of Rio members learned from Monica how she transforms natural materials such as seeds, straw, and wood into contemporary works of art, inspired by about 30 years of collaboration with Indigenous communities. Thanks to Monica and all who participated!

🥂💰 A great night of conversation, community, and financial insight!

Thank you to everyone who joined us last night for the American Society of Rio’s **Sip & Learn** at **Cali Gastrolounge** in Ipanema.

Amit Ramnami of **Ipanema Wealth** (.rio) shared valuable insights and answered questions in an intimate setting above the main bar, helping guests think more intentionally about their financial futures.

🌊 Making a Difference at Flamengo Beach! 🇺🇸🇧🇷

The American Society of Rio was proud to have 16 volunteers join approximately 400 volunteers from organizations and schools across Rio for this year’s World Cleanup Day at Flamengo Beach!

Together, volunteers spent the morning collecting an incredible 480 kg of trash from the beach. 💪♻️

The annual cleanup was organized by Projeto Tatuí, from Instituto Ecológico Aqualung, helping protect an area that has recently shown encouraging environmental progress. Earlier this year, two baby dolphins were spotted in Guanabara Bay, alongside reports of improved water quality compared with past years. 🐬💙

Congratulations to Projeto Uerê! 🎉

The American Society of Rio is proud to congratulate Projeto Uerê on receiving the top prize in a U.S. Library of Congress grant funded by private donors! This recognition celebrates Projeto Uerê’s innovative approach to literacy education and its important work with children and young people in Complexo da Maré.

We were honored to welcome Projeto Uerê founder Yvonne Bezerra de Mello to our Speaker Series in December 2025, where she shared more about the organization’s work and impact.

🇺🇸 **U.S. Citizens Abroad: Make Your Vote Count in 2026!**

If you’re a **U.S. citizen living, working, or traveling overseas**, you have the right to vote from abroad in the **November 3, 2026 U.S. elections**.

🗳️ **What do you need to do?**
Complete the **Federal Post Card Application (FPCA)** to register to vote and request your absentee ballot. Whether you are a first-time voter or have voted absentee in previous elections, you should complete a **Voter Registration and Absentee Ballot Request (FPCA) each year** to ensure you are able to participate in elections as an overseas absentee voter.

📅 **Don’t wait!**
Voter registration and ballot deadlines vary by state, and some states require registration well in advance of Election Day. Check the requirements for your state and act early.

📍 U.S. citizens in Brazil can also drop off eligible election materials at the **U.S. Embassy or a U.S. Consulate in Brazil** for delivery to their local election officials.

As part of our community outreach efforts, members of the American Society of Rio Board volunteered at the EducationUSA College Fair last Sunday at the Hilton Copacabana Hotel.

It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with students and families, share more about the American Society of Rio, and introduce our community to new faces!

Thank you to all the families who joined us at **Big Jump USA** on Saturday! 🎉

We had an amazing **70 people in attendance** for an afternoon filled with fun, connection, and community. It was wonderful to see kids and parents come together, meet new people, and enjoy the day!

Beach Clean-Up

📍 Flamengo Beach, Next to Marina da Glória

Join the American Society for a beach clean-up that will be in collaboration with Projeto Tatuí, a program by the Instituto Ecológico Aqualung dedicated to marine conservation and environmental education. The project provides gloves, bags, and tarps where litter will be sorted. The American Society will be one of various organizations that will have volunteers to help that day. All money to participate goes to Projeto Tatui. Your financial support not only gets you a t-shirt, but helps Projeto Tatui provide the supplies for the event and support the great work they do for environmental education and beach clean-ups.
