Happy Anniversary to us!! We were so excited to gather with our wonderful members and supporters last night to celebrate 15 years of commemorating history in our community! To all who have been part of our journey thus far - THANK YOU! It has been a wonderful adventure and we can't wait to see what comes next!

And a very special thanks to Anna-Catherine Alexander of the Preservation Society of Charleston for joining us and sharing some thoughts on how local historical societies like ours are making a difference!

What a wonderful kick-off we had this evening for our fall season!

Thank you to the amazing Joseph McGill of The Slave Dwelling Project for sharing the poignant story of Oscar Marion and other Black enslaved men who served during the Revolutionary War. Through Mr. McGill's first-person portrayal of Oscar, we learned about the often-overlooked contributions of Black men and women in the struggle for independence. What an incredible lesson for us all on the power of resilience, service and survival!

We'd also like to thank our friends at Berkeley 250 for co-hosting this program with us!

Exciting upcoming talk with the Costal Conservation League! Herb Frasier co-wrote the book Sleeping with the Ancestors with our September speaker Joseph McGill!

Join the Coastal Conservation League on September 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Philosophers & Fools for an evening with acclaimed journalist and author Herb Frazier, as he joins us for a conversation about his book, Behind God's Back, the rich history of the Cainhoy Peninsula, and the conservation challenges the region faces today.

Together, we'll explore Cainhoy's cultural and natural significance, discuss the impacts of the proposed large-scale development on the peninsula, and examine why protecting this unique landscape is more important than ever. The evening will conclude with a Q&A, offering attendees the opportunity to engage directly with Herb Frazier and Conservation League staff.
