SINAL is an acronym standing for synchronicity (Sincronismo in Portuguese), innovation (Inovação ) and well-being (Alegria); three core principles which embody the purpose of Sinal do Vale. Located 40 minutes away from Rio de Janeiro International Airport and one hour from downtown Rio, Sinal do Vale is embedded in a lush tropical ecosystem known as Mata Atlantica, rich in water sources and biodi

Volunteers at SINAL are welcome to offer their contribuition in the following areas:organic gardening, we are currently working into improving the soil and growing food. We are also starting agroforestry projects. There are also opportunities for the volunteers to become involved and engaged with the needs of the local community of Santo Antonio through various activities. In 2013, we will be working with an elementary school of Santo Antonio, which is the low income neighborhood at the entrance of the valley. We are welcome enthusiastic volunteers who want to be involved with helping in the development of Sinal. We believe that in order to be involved with SINAL our volunteers need to have a drive for social change and an understanding of low-income communities’ issues within developing countries. Additionally we require you to be self-motivated, be able to work both independently and as part of a team - whilst also being able to work on your own initiative when needed. Good communication and personal skills are also a requirement. We also welcome volunteers from WWOOF. Volunteers who have at least a basic level of Portuguese are preferred.
