🌿 On June 6–7, Indigenous Peoples representatives gathered in Bonn, Germany, through the Indigenous Peoples Caucus (IP Caucus) ahead of the 64th Sessions of the UNFCCC Subsidiary Bodies (SB64), strengthening coordination and collective advocacy within the global climate process.

Representatives from the seven socio-cultural regions exchanged perspectives on shared priorities, including climate justice, land rights, direct access to climate finance, Indigenous women’s leadership, and the full and effective participation of Indigenous Peoples in climate decision-making. These discussions contributed to the development of a collective opening statement presented at the start of SB64.

📸 Featured in this photo are members of the Africa Indigenous Caucus at SB64, including Pawanka Fund partner Gideon Sanago from PINGOs Forum (Tanzania) and Aeshatou Manu, member of AIWO-CAN (Cameroon), who joined fellow Indigenous leaders in advancing coordinated advocacy and amplifying Indigenous voices and solutions within global climate negotiations. 🌍✨

🌿 Pawanka Fund participated in the 15th meeting of the Facilitative Working Group (FWG 15) of the Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples Platform (LCIPP), held from June 2–5 in Bonn, Germany, alongside the 64th sessions of the UN Climate Change Subsidiary Bodies.

The meeting brought together Indigenous Peoples, local communities, and government representatives to review progress on the 2025–2027 LCIPP Workplan, strengthen regional engagement, and advance collective approaches that promote Indigenous knowledge, territorial governance, and community-led climate action within the UN climate process.

As a key platform under the UN climate convention, the LCIPP continued to elevate the knowledge, practices, and solutions of Indigenous Peoples and local communities in addressing climate change. The gathering also highlighted opportunities for Indigenous organizations and community leaders to help shape the next LCIPP Workplan (2028–2031), ensuring their voices remain central to global climate action. 🌎✨

“If we want to have female leaders of tomorrow, we have to start with the girls of today.”

During the Africa Partners Exchange in Kenya, Samira Bendriouich from Amazigh Girls Matter shared a reflection that speaks to the importance of nurturing leadership from an early age. 🌱

Her words remind us that empowering girls is not only about creating opportunities for the future—it is about recognizing their voices, knowledge, and potential in the present. When girls are supported, educated, and encouraged to lead, entire communities grow stronger alongside them.

Supporting young girls today means helping shape futures rooted in dignity, confidence, and collective transformation. It is through them that new generations of Indigenous leadership will continue to rise, carrying forward culture, resilience, and hope. ✨🌍

Today we honor the life of Carlo Petrini — a man who taught the world that food is not merely consumption, but memory, culture, identity, and resistance. Through Slow Food, he inspired generations to protect ancestral knowledge, defend biodiversity, and restore dignity to the hands that cultivate the Earth.

His vision reminded us that caring for the land also means caring for communities, languages, traditions, and future generations. In every seed preserved, every Indigenous food system protected, and every shared table rooted in respect, his legacy continues to grow.

Though his voice now rests, the movement he nurtured will keep flourishing across the world. 🌱

Forced displacement is not only the loss of a home — it is the pain of being separated from sacred rivers, forests, songs, and ancestral paths. Yet even when communities are forced to move, their roots continue to live within them. 🌿

Indigenous Peoples carry memory, identity, and resilience wherever they go. In the face of emergency, families continue walking together, protecting their children, their traditions, and the wisdom passed down through generations.

At Pawanka Fund, we honor the strength of Indigenous communities who continue defending life, dignity, and belonging despite displacement and uncertainty. Because the spirit of the land cannot be erased — it travels in the hearts of the people. ✨
