At Rural Agroecology Network, we embrace April as a season of renewal, growth, and responsibility. This month is the peak panting time in Uganda and we continue to encourage all farmers to return to our roots by planting and multiplying our local indigenous seeds.

Planting local will help farmers move out of the expensive hybrid seeds' dependency, secure the future and grow freedom for a more resilient and sustainable food system.

Indigenous seeds are life, they carry communities' heritage, resilience, and independence.

🌍🌱 The new One Million Voices of Agroecology release is here and it is a big step forward for clarity, participation, and momentum in our global agroecology journey. We redesigned key screens for amore unified experience, improved navigation flow, and introduced richer card-based layouts so people can explore more practices and locations at a glance. 🗺️✨ The map view now feels more immersive and practical, mobile interactions are cleaner, and core pages are easier to scan, read, and use. 📱✅

https://onemillionvoices.agroecologymap.org/

We also launched a stronger media experience with a dedicated Gallery entry in the main menu, refined gallery/document views, and improved reliability when media is unavailable. 🖼️📂 Detail pages were reorganized for better storytelling and knowledge flow across locations, practices, and contributions.

Together, these updates reinforce the One Million Voices mission: inclusive co-creation, shared learning, and collective action for agroecological transitions worldwide. 🤝🌾🚀

The Himalayan Permaculture Centre (HPC) 🌿 is a grassroots NGO founded in 2010 by trained and motivated farmers from Surkhet district in Mid-Western Nepal, dedicated to regenerative and sustainable rural development through the lens of Permaculture design and Agroecological principles 🌱. Since 2011, HPC has been running a pioneering Agroecology project across multiple villages and districts of Western Nepal, focusing on Agroecological demonstration, training, and resource production — including seeds, seedlings, and educational materials — while forming a network of "barefoot consultants," farmer-trainers and designers who carry Agroecological and Permacultural knowledge directly to their communities 🌾🤝. In a country where over 90% of the working population depends on agriculture, HPC recognizes that traditional subsistence practices were once deeply harmonized with local ecosystems, weaving together Agroforestry relationships between food production, forests, fodder, and medicine 🌳🍃. However, forest nationalization, population growth, and misguided aid programs have disrupted this balance, leaving communities food-insecure and disempowered — a crisis that HPC addresses by restoring Agroecological, Permacultural, and Agroforestry wisdom as the foundation of true rural resilience 🌍✨.

The Badass Fruiterrarist Land project 🌿 is a visionary vegan reforestation initiative located in a lush Amazon valley in northern Ecuador, near the Sumaco Napo-Galeras National Park, where a growing community of fruiterrarists is actively transforming degraded cow pastures and monoculture plantations into thriving, high-density agroforestry food forests 🌳🍉. Rooted in deep agroecological principles 🌱, the project embraces permacultural design to restore biodiversity, cultivate both native and exotic fruit trees, and build self-sustaining, biodiverse ecosystems that benefit humans and wild beings alike 🦋🐦. Participants operate on a fully voluntary, non-hierarchical basis, sharing seeds, seedlings, knowledge, and labor to weave a contiguous fruit forest network across western Orellana, reclaiming misused land and providing critical wildlife habitat while pursuing radical food sovereignty 🍌🥭🌴. The project warmly invites individuals with strong vegan ethics to purchase or co-own affordable land in one of the tropics most biodiverse regions, joining a grassroots agroforestry movement dedicated to regenerating the Amazon ecosystem for all peaceful beings, in perpetuity 🌍💚.

The Terra Vista Settlement, established in 1994 after the Landless Workers' Movement's (MST) persistent struggle, represents a transformative agroecological and permacultural model in Brazil's cocoa region 🌱. With 313 hectares of preserved Atlantic Forest and 300 hectares of traditional cacao-cabruca agroforestry, the community has spent 18 years transitioning to sustainable practices that harmonize agriculture with native ecosystems 🌳. This permacultural approach integrates cacao production under the forest canopy, promoting biodiversity, soil preservation, and water cycle regulation while reducing dependency on external inputs 🌍. The settlement demonstrates how collective action and agroecology can create resilient, community-centered alternatives to exploitative monoculture systems, fostering both environmental regeneration and social justice ✊.
