Beyond the negotiation rooms at in Belem, Brazil, CANSEA joined civil society organisations in advocating for and at roundtables, press conferences and panel sessions.

Nithi Nesadurai, the Director and Regional Coordinator of CANSEA shared best practices from the project in East Kalimantan and South Sumatra, Indonesia which offers a model for Just Coal Transition to the world.

These sessions open new opportunities for collaboration - Willington Ortiz from Wuppertal Insitute for Climate, Environment and Energy, a fellow panel speaker and lead of the IKIJET project in Colombia, expressed keen interest in sharing best practices between the two regions.

The IKIJET project in Indonesia has made significant breakthrough in transitioning away from coal with local communities in the two regions, from comprehensive understanding of their needs to co-creating alternative livelihoods.

📍 Blue Zone, Press Conference 2

Members of the ASEAN made a collective agreement for a just and inclusive energy transition and accelerate regional decarbonization. To act on this commitment, Southeast Asia must stop prioritizing fossil fuels: there can be no comeback for coal, nor should fossil gas be accepted as a transition fuel.

Meanwhile, as Malaysia concludes its Chairship of ASEAN and the Philippines prepares for its term, the Philippine government is embroiled in widespread corruption issues and backlash for its ‘renewed commitment’ to coal.

On COP30 Energy day, join civil society as we unite to call for a people-centered energy agenda for the region — through challenging the fossil buildout in the region with renewables, and calling for an end to pressure from developed nations such as Japan for continued fossil fuel reliance in the region.

Multilateral Climate Funds were created to support developing countries — but slow access, complex requirements, and “bankability” barriers still leave vulnerable communities behind.

This panel session explores how MCFs can deliver equity alongside climate outcomes, from financing just transitions for workers to supporting SMEs, livelihoods, and community-based adaptation rooted in the bioeconomy.

Our upcoming session brings together government, civil society, and global partners to ask a simple question: How can climate finance finally reach the people who need it most?

From forests to frontline livelihoods, join us as we discuss how MCFs can fuel a fairer bioeconomy and a truly just transition.
