The final day of our Bolivia visit is always so fun! Everyone is invited: patients, their families, and everyone on the RVF team! Light refreshments are shared, some small presents for the kids, and a chance for the families to meet each other and learn more about support available for their children. Home visits are an integral part of the RVF strategy, allowing the medical team to get to know the child and their family in their own environment. 3 home visits today! Dr Darlene Melk was accompanied by Cristina Diaz-Mateo (Manager of Operations from Open Horizon- an incredible group supporting our work) and Silvia Ajhuacho Lima, a wonderfully talented nurse for RFV, with us for the long haul.

One of our strategies that increases the success of our programs is the commitment to home visits. This way, we can better see the progress of our patients in their own environment and help with addition interventions. Our Bolivian team makes weekly home visits to our families, definitely adding physical / challenges to already long days. Thanks to all the Bolivian professionals who make this extra commitment, and to the families who always welcome them into their homes!

This is how we roll.........Meet part of Team Chiricahua! Dr. Claudia Pleitez, a pediatrician and friend of Darlene and Jonathan in Douglas, AZ, had been a loyal supporter of the RVF for over 10 years! Dr. Pleitez has wanted to join the medical team to go work in Montero, Bolivia and this year the stars aligned and she was able to come with her son, Eddy. It is such a gift to have Dr. Pleitez on the team as this year our census increased to 30 patients and her experience and willingness to get right to work is greatly appreciated! Dr. Pleitez is originally from El Salvador so as a native Spanish speaer, she easily fit right in with the Bolivian team and with the families.
