The Losses We Carry
Having recently returned from a much-needed respite, I find that the moments of stillness and reflection remain with me.
My heart and soul have been restless since hearing the news of the passing of Cindy Crawford’s son. I extend my deepest condolences to Cindy, her family and everyone who loved him.
This heartbreaking news has also brought back memories of some of the lives lost during my 17 years at Pathways Bermuda. Each loss remains a painful reminder that substance use does not affect one individual alone. Its impact travels through entire families—parents, children, partners, siblings and friends—who often endure years of fear, uncertainty and heartbreak while their loved one battles this disease.
I have witnessed that journey closely, both through my work and within my own circle of loved ones. I know that families carry their own wounds—often quietly, and sometimes long after a loved one is gone.
This is why recovery needs a community.
It asks us to replace judgement with compassion, to listen before drawing conclusions and to understand that healing is rarely a straight line. A setback does not erase progress, and no person should ever be defined solely by the most difficult chapter of their life.
At Pathways Bermuda, our dedicated clinical team provides treatment within an intentionally designed, trauma-informed environment—one grounded in dignity, accountability, hope and healing.
During Recovery Month, may we remember those we have lost, stand beside those still battling and embrace the families who continue to carry both love and pain.
