Primary 3 students had the opportunity to explore Portuguese influence on Bermuda’s cultural heritage through our collaboration with Kaleidoscope! ✨

From discovering traditional azulejos tiles and Portuguese architecture, to learning about cultural symbols and traditions, this experience supported understanding of how art, stories and traditions reflect cultural identity in Bermuda.

🖌️ The fun continued with a hands-on activity where students explored symmetry and patterns before creating their very own azulejo tiles!

📚Students also explored the mentor text Wings of Wonder, written by local authors Susana Amaral Pimentel and Julia Amaral Pimentel. A free copy of the book was provided during the school visit, helping students make meaningful connections between stories, art and culture.

Our P3 students stepped back in time at Carter House and became real explores, map-makers, and treasure hunters for the day! 🧭

Students were welcomed by “Captain Ramirez,” a Spanish sailor from over 400 years ago, who shared stories of sailing across the Atlantic Ocean on a Spanish galleon in search of treasure and valuable goods. Through this immersive experience, students explored how sailors used maps, landmarks, and compasses to navigate the seas. 🗺️

Working in teams, our explorers followed directions, identified landmarks around Carter House, located hidden treasure, and created their very own maps and keys. Along the way, they learned about Bermuda’s coral reefs, the history behind Spanish Point, and the importance of North, South, East and West. 🌊

From compass challenges and map-making to discovering cacao beans, silver, and other treasures from long ago, students showed fantastic teamwork, curiosity, and geography skills throughout the expedition. ⚓️

By the end of the expedition, students confidently used explorer vocabulary to discuss bartering, trading, map keys, symbols and compass directions. They used rich descriptive language to explain treasures, landmarks and their learning while demonstrating excellent teamwork and geography skills. 🌎

Thank you Carter House for partnering to deliver this wonderful experience!

P5 students had an incredible time exploring the world of sound during their Sound Lab Expedition BUEI (Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute) ! 🔊

Through hands-on experiments, movement activities, and interactive learning stations, students explored how sound is created through vibrations, how it travels through different materials, and how pitch and volume can be changed.

From testing tuning forks and to “seeing” sound vibrations in action, students were fully engaged in learning through curiosity, collaboration, and scientific investigation. 🎶🔍

It was amazing watching students observe, predict, experiment, and confidently use new scientific vocabulary throughout the experience. A huge thank you to BUEI (Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute) for hosting such an exciting and meaningful learning opportunity for our P5 students! 🎉
