Back in 2021, something pretty special happened in Bermuda’s environmental community. The Bermuda Environmental Sustainability Taskforce, or BEST, joined forces with other environmental groups for a meeting that would set the stage for real change. BEST's idea was simple but powerful: what if we all came together to tackle the environmental issues we share? Keep Bermuda Beautiful—better known as KBB, was inspired by the idea of collaboration and from that meeting, a united front was born. The first issue we decided to take on was single-use plastics. The Government had proposed legislation to phase them out, and we knew this was the moment to act. They’ve been battling plastic pollution since the very beginning. But this time, it wasn’t just about cleaning up the mess. Their Executive Director was pushing for something more—solutions. Real, long-term fixes that could help us stop the problem at the source. That shift—from reacting to preventing—was a major turning point for KBB. And it was inspiring to see BEST step up too, ready to collaborate on public education and provide sound advice to Government on how to craft effective laws and policies. Together, we launched a joint campaign: Beyond Plastic. It’s been running ever since, powered by a dedicated team of volunteers and the generosity of donors. And we’re proud to say it’s made a real impact—so much so, it’s won not one, but two community awards for environmental innovation. This is what happens when passion meets purpose—and when we all work together for a cleaner, healthier Bermuda.
