Empowering the Next Generation of Women in Technology 🇧🇮💜
On 18 July 2026, Burundi celebrated another important milestone in its digital transformation with the successful organization of Django Girls Bujumbura 2026. This edition marked the return of Django Girls to Burundi after four years, following the first event held in 2022.
The Association des Jeunes Techniciens pour le Développement (AJTD) was proud to contribute to this inspiring initiative by providing mentors and committing to the continued support of participants beyond the workshop. We believe that empowering young women in technology is not achieved in a single day—it is built through continuous learning, mentorship, collaboration, and opportunities.
Throughout the workshop, more than just programming skills were shared. Participants were introduced to Python and Django, collaborated with experienced mentors, and became part of a growing network of women determined to shape the future of technology in Burundi.
One of the most exciting outcomes of the event was the establishment of the Burundi Django Girls Community. This community will provide a long-term platform where participants can continue learning, build projects together, contribute to open-source initiatives, and inspire even more girls to pursue careers in technology.
As part of its long-term commitment to youth empowerment, AJTD will support this community through its flagship initiative, InnoBridge Network.
InnoBridge Network is an initiative of AJTD dedicated to connecting young innovators, software developers, entrepreneurs, researchers, universities, industries, and international technology communities. Its mission is to bridge the gap between talent and opportunity by fostering collaboration, innovation, mentorship, knowledge sharing, and access to global technology ecosystems. Through InnoBridge Network, members of the Burundi Django Girls Community will have opportunities to participate in technical workshops, mentorship programmes, collaborative projects, innovation challenges, networking events, and regional and international partnerships.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the organizing team, mentors, volunteers, sponsors, partners, and every participant who made Django Girls Bujumbura 2026 a remarkable success. Together, we are building a more inclusive, innovative, and resilient technology ecosystem for Burundi.
This is only the beginning. The future of women in technology in Burundi is brighter than ever, and AJTD remains committed to supporting the next generation of digital leaders.
