For World , midwife Kanata Akter shares her experience providing care in the Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh — where trust, dignity, and respectful care meant the difference between women avoiding facilities and choosing midwife-led care.

Through community engagement and consistent, compassionate care, monthly births at her facility grew from just 4-6 to as many as 100.

🤝 The Midwife in Action's Association:M.A.A :Vyara Uheke contribue à cet effort en assurant la continuité et l’intégration des services de santé se****le et reproductive (SR) dans les contextes de crises humanitaires, avec un rôle essentiel des sages-femmes.

👩‍⚕️👩‍🍼 Dans les situations d’urgence, les sages-femmes restent engagées pour protéger la vie, préserver la dignité des femmes et des nouveau-nés et garantir l’accès aux soins essentiels.

❤️ Ensemble, valorisons les acteurs humanitaires et les sages-femmes qui œuvrent pour que personne ne soit laissé de côté.

🩸 9 August 2026 | Our Community Took Action!

Today, the Kanyosha community turned our shared commitment into action through the blood collection campaign.
🙏 We extend our heartfelt thanks to all blood donors, the Ministry of Public Health, health workers, religious leaders, local administration, partners, and every contributor who helped make this life-saving initiative possible.
Every donation is a step toward ensuring that mothers and newborns can receive the blood they need in emergencies, especially in cases of postpartum haemorrhage (PPH).
As MAA Vyara Uheke Burundi, we believe that when midwives, communities, leaders, and partners work together, we can save lives and contribute to reducing maternal and newborn deaths in Burundi.

🩸 BLOOD DONATION SENSITIZATION CAMPAIGN | 8 AUGUST 2026 🩸

Today, MAA Vyara Uheke Burundi took the message of life-saving blood donation directly to the Kanyosha community.
Our members engaged community members in awareness and education ahead of the blood collection campaign planned for tomorrow, 9 August 2026, in collaboration with the National Center of Blood Bank under the Ministry of Public Health and the Fight against AIDS.
❤️ Almost 300 people received information and education today on the importance of blood donation and how a simple act of giving blood can save the lives of mothers, newborns, accident victims, and other patients in need.
As midwives, we understand the devastating consequences of postpartum haemorrhage (PPH) and the urgent need for safe blood to save mothers and newborns.
Through our Blood Collection Program, MAA Vyara Uheke Burundi is committed to contributing to the reduction of maternal and newborn mortality caused by postpartum haemorrhage.
🙏 We sincerely recognize and appreciate the support of religious leaders, especially Kanyosha Catholic Church, as well as the local administration of Kanyosha, for standing with us in this life-saving initiative.
👩🏾‍⚕️ Midwives are on the frontline. Communities are part of the solution. Religious leaders and local authorities are powerful partners for change.
