Last Wednesday, CESAPH conducted a monitoring visit to beneficiaries of the Woman in Action Project, financed by The Giving Exchange, in Muramvya Commune, Gitega Province. The beneficiaries are women with disabilities who received sewing machines last year to support their economic empowerment. They are also organized into Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), which provide opportunities for regular savings and access to small loans. During the visit, the women testified that the sewing machines have enabled them to engage in tailoring activities and generate income. They also reported using loans obtained through their VSLAs to invest in other income-generating activities and diversify their sources of income. The beneficiaries highlighted that the project has strengthened their economic independence, confidence, and participation in community life. They further reported a positive change in community attitudes towards people with disabilities, who are increasingly recognized as capable and productive members of society. Overall, the visit confirmed that the project is contributing to the economic empowerment, social inclusion, and improved livelihoods of women with disabilities in Muramvya Commune.

Visit of Spirit in Action (SIA) Delegation to CESAPH Beneficiaries

On Monday, a delegation from Spirit in Action (SIA) visited CESAPH beneficiaries in Gitega Province, Gishubi Commune, Nyarusange Zone, including those who received sewing machines last year. CESAPH supports vulnerable people, including persons with disabilities, through Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) and empowerment activities.
The project, “Let’s Help One Another” (Dutezanyimbere), has supported 40 vulnerable families with goats and VSLA establishment. The visit allowed beneficiaries to share testimonies on changes in their lives.
In Nyarubenga Hill, beneficiaries have kitchen gardens growing amaranth, tomatoes, and cabbages, using goat manure as organic fertilizer.
Similarly, beneficiaries in Biziya Hill have developed kitchen gardens to improve household food security and livelihoods.
They expressed appreciation to SIA through CESAPH, highlighting the importance of VSLAs for accessing loans and starting or strengthening income-generating activities (IGAs).
They also emphasized improved social inclusion of persons with disabilities, who now feel more valued and integrated in community life.
The visit was attended by the Chief of Nyarusange Zone and the two Hill Chiefs, who observed progress and interacted with beneficiaries.
Overall, the visit highlighted positive changes in livelihoods, savings, food production, and social inclusion achieved through SIA and CESAPH collaboration.

🕊️ HOMMAGE À NOTRE BÉNÉFICIAIRE FABIOLA

C'est avec une profonde tristesse et une immense douleur que le Cercle des Éducateurs Spécialisés Amis de la Personne Handicapée (CESAPH) a appris le décès de notre bénéficiaire, Fabiola, une jeune fille sourde qui participait à notre projet d'autonomisation à travers la couture.
Fabiola restera dans nos mémoires comme une jeune femme courageuse, persévérante et déterminée à construire un avenir meilleur malgré les défis de la vie. Son départ prématuré constitue une grande perte pour sa famille, pour notre association et pour toute la communauté des personnes en situation de handicap.
En ces moments de profonde affliction, le CESAPH présente ses sincères et attristées condoléances à sa famille biologique, à ses proches ainsi qu'à tous ceux qui l'ont connue et aimée. Nous partageons leur douleur et les assurons de notre solidarité dans cette épreuve.
Nous garderons de Fabiola le souvenir d'une jeune bénéficiaire pleine d'espoir, dont le courage continuera d'inspirer notre engagement en faveur de l'inclusion et de l'autonomisation des personnes en situation de handicap.
Que son âme repose en paix.
