SACODE, l'Association pour la Promotion de la Santé des Communautés pour le Développement. Elle a son siège social a Bujumbura.

L'Association pour la Promotion de la Santé des Communautés pour le Développement, SACODE, est une Organisation d'appui et d’encadrement, apolitique et à but non lucratif de droit Burundais. La SACODE est née en 2010 suite aux besoins ressentis par ses membres fondateurs de valoriser les bonnes pratiques qui visent las promotion de la santé pour le Développement des communautés a las base. Elle a

été agréée par le Ministre de l’intérieur du Gouvernement Burundais le 20 avril 2011. L'objectif fondamental de SACODE est de promouvoir la santé de nos communautés a travers l'information, l’éducation et la sensibilisation sur de bonnes pratiques durables; avec l'espoir d'inciter nos communautés de non seulement être responsables de leur santé, mais aussi de prendre l'initiative de vivre une vie saine.

🤩 Depuis mardi, les inscriptions de la première promotion de l’Institut de Formation Professionnelle Menya Umwuga ont officiellement commencé.

À cette occasion, nous rencontrons des femmes et des filles en situation de handicap afin d’échanger avec elles, de découvrir leurs parcours et de mieux comprendre leurs besoins. Ces entretiens nous permettent également d’évaluer leur niveau de vulnérabilité et leur capacité à suivre une formation professionnelle.

🎯 Cette étape nous aide à identifier les personnes qui pourront le mieux bénéficier du programme et de l’accompagnement qui leur sera proposé.

🤝 Grâce au programme Menya Umwuga, mis en œuvre par SaCoDé avec le soutien de la Principauté de Monaco ( Gouvernement Monaco ), des femmes en situation de handicap auront l’opportunité d’acquérir des compétences professionnelles pour renforcer leur autonomie et améliorer leurs conditions de vie.

Derrière chaque entretien, il y a une histoire, un potentiel et l’espoir d’un nouveau départ.

🇧🇮 In Burundi, period poverty is shaped by limited access to information, education, safe sanitation, healthcare, and economic opportunities.

That is why at SaCoDé, we implement an integrated approach to ending period poverty through four interconnected programs:

⭐ Three-Star School Approach (Ishure ry’inyenyeri): Creating safe and supportive schools environment where girls can manage their periods with dignity and continue their education without disruption.

🏡 Community Graduation: Empowering women and households through improved reproductive health, better sanitation, stronger livelihoods, and sustainable access to menstrual products.

📱 Oky Burundi App (Baza Oky): Providing adolescents with trusted information about puberty and menstruation through the world’s first tailored digital platform, available natively in Kirundi and French.

🧵 Vocational Training (Menya umwuga): Equipping women and girls with employable skills while strengthening the local production of our Agateka reusable menstrual products.

Ending period poverty takes more than one isolated solution. By working across schools, households, and communities, we are helping girls and women manage menstruation with dignity while building healthier, more resilient communities.

📊 2025 Annual Report: OKY-Burundi App 📱

Through Baza OKY, implemented with UNICEF Burundi , we expanded access to the OKY-Burundi app in 2025:

✅ 2,541 new accounts created
🧑‍🏫 264 educators trained and equipped with smartphones
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 199 parents engaged
🏫 66 schools reached

📊 2025 Annual Report: Vocational Training 👷‍♀️

Through Menya Umwuga, women and out-of-school girls build practical skills that can lead to income, confidence, and greater independence.
In 2025, 139 SaCoDé tailors received additional training in crochet, backpack making, handbag making, basket weaving, and other practical skills.

Because skills are not only about work. They are about dignity, choice, and opportunity.

📊 2025 Annual Report: In Households 🏡
Period poverty does not end at the school gate. Through Iterambere, we work with women and mothers in the communities surrounding our partners schools, because girls need supportive environments at home too.

In 2025:
💰 338 new income-generating activities were launched
🩸 2,421 women bought Agateka reusable pads
💧 947 women improved their household latrines
🥗 1,012 women established kitchen gardens
💊 979 women adopted contraceptive methods with their spouses

Healthier homes. Stronger women. More dignity for girls and families.

📊 2025 Annual Report: In Schools 🎒

Through Ishure ry’Inyenyeri, we work with schools to reduce menstruation-related barriers by combining education, school clubs, reusable pads, teacher engagement, and WASH support.

In 2025,
🩸 5,612 girls received free Agateka reusable pads.
👥 5,010 students were brought together through school clubs.
🚀 In Makamba, menstruation-related absenteeism decreased from 42% to 29%.

In 2025, despite many challenges, we continued our work to eliminate period poverty in Burundi through an integrated model that meets girls and women where they are: in schools, at home, in communities, and through digital spaces.
Our 2025 Annual Report presents results through four connected pillars:

Today, the 2nd AU Pan-African Conference on Girls' and Women's Education (AU PANCOGEd 2) officially kicked off at the Royal Palace Hotel in Burundi 🇧🇮.

🌍 Hosted by the African Union Commission (AUC ESTI / AU CIEFFA) alongside Burundi's Ministry of National Education and Scientific Research, this high-level forum has brought together over 300 key stakeholders. From African Ministers and policymakers to global development partners like the World Bank, UNESCO, UNICEF, and UNFPA, the mission is clear: accelerate learning opportunities for girls across the continent 🎓📚.

Burundi’s opening remarks highlighted both remarkable progress and critical bottlenecks :

📉 The Data at a Glance :
🎒 Primary School Success: Thanks to free basic education, Burundi has achieved a Gender Parity Index of 1.01 in primary schools. Girls enter the classroom at virtually the same rate as boys 👧👦✔️.

📚 The Secondary School Drop-off : The narrative changes during adolescence. Nearly 46% of school-age girls drop out at the secondary level, compared to 34% of boys ⚠️📉.

🛑 The Barriers :
This steep drop-off is driven by deeply entrenched systemic issues: early pregnancies, gender-based violence (GBV), and socio-cultural pressures that force young girls out of classrooms and into domestic care work 🚫👧🏽.

To achieve Burundi's Vision 2040 & 2060, the conversation must move from basic primary access to robust secondary retention and higher education safety nets 📖.
