Yesterday marked a joyful milestone as H.E. Maj. Gen. Évariste Ndayishimiye, President of the Republic of Burundi, officially inaugurated the Tenga Water Project, alongside senior government officials, community leaders, and Amazi Water leadership.

In his speech, the President recognized the important role Amazi Water is playing in expanding access to clean water across Burundi through innovative and sustainable approaches.

He highlighted that Amazi Water’s impact extends beyond Bujumbura, reaching rural and remote communities where access to clean water was once difficult to imagine. He also called on local communities to take good care of the water infrastructure so that it can continue serving them for generations to come.

Representing Amazi Water, CEO Jason Peters expressed his gratitude to the President, government authorities, partners, local leaders, and everyone who contributed to making the project possible.

He particularly recognized the extraordinary contribution of the Tenga and Rubirizi communities, whose residents helped dig approximately 23 kilometers of trenches for the pipeline network.

This project stands as a powerful testament to what can be achieved through strong partnerships, collective community involvement, and effective government support.

More than 58,000 people in Tenga and Rubirizi will now have reliable access to clean water. This milestone will reduce the risk of water-borne diseases, improve community health, and contribute to a healthier future for generations to come.

Through his dedication and commitment, Clovis has played an important role in expanding access to clean water in his region. He is also closely involved in the Tenga Water Project, one of Amazi Water’s largest initiatives, located in the area he supports.

More than 100 students dropped out of Bigina School in just two school terms because of water scarcity.

Without access to clean water, many children walked several kilometers each morning before school, often arriving late—or missing classes.

After Amazi Water installed a solar powered clean water system to the school, attendance improved, sanitation conditions became healthier, and the learning environment was transformed. During the following school term, only three students dropped out, and none of those cases were related to water scarcity.

Amazi Water partnered with Operation Blessing recently to bring clean water to more than 4,000 Congolese refugees who fled the ongoing violence in eastern DRC.

Watch the video below as our CEO, Jason Peters explains how the solar-powered water system outside the Makombe Transit Site is providing safe, reliable access to clean water for families in transition.

The borehole and solar panels featured are located outside the camp, and the water from this system is piped inside the camp so refugee families can access clean water directly from taps just a few steps away from their temporary shelters.

Amazi Water Jerrycan Cleaning Campain 📢

Today, the entire Amazi Water team joined the people of Tenga, alongside local authorities, for a community Jerry Can Cleaning Campaign. 🪣✨ Together, we raised awareness about the importance of cleaning water containers before collecting safe drinking water from the newly installed public taps.

This awareness campaign marks the final essential step in our largest-ever clean water project. By encouraging proper water storage and hygiene practices, we're helping ensure that clean water remains safe from the tap all the way to every family's home. 🏠🚰

🏅 The day was also an opportunity to express our gratitude as we proudly recognized the government leaders, institutions, and community partners whose dedication and collaboration made this project possible. Certificates of appreciation were presented in recognition of their invaluable support throughout the journey.

🎉 We also celebrated our incredible Amazi Water team. From engineers, welders and technicians to community mobilizers and support teams, every department played a vital role in turning this vision into reality. Thank you for your commitment, hard work, and belief that every family deserves access to clean water in Tenga.💧

🚰 Once inaugurated, this transformative project will provide reliable access to clean, safe water for more than 60,000 people across Tenga and Rubirizi in Bujumbura Province.
