On this International Day of People with Disabilities, we celebrate the accomplishments of SIA Partner Charité Sans Frontières in Burundi, which brought together 50 people living with disabilities to learn to make soap.

Appolinaire Dadari (pictured in the blue shirt) gave this testimony: "I longed for this profession, but I lacked the financial means. Through CSF’s soap-making training course, I learned how to make different kinds of soap, like powdered soap and others that we usually use at home. I learned how to mix acid and oil to make bar soap, about the moulding time, and how to cut it according to orders. I am able to make soap for my family. I do the marketing to support the family economy and other needs. I drive a tricycle, so now I can buy a spare part, a tire or pay for repairs. The community benefits from the soaps right near their homes."

In Bujumbura - Burundi, 30 incredible women - widows and single mothers have come together to form the FAIRE DU BIEN (“Doing Good”) association. With experience in rice cultivation and big dreams for a better future, they’re launching a powerful self-financing project right near the city’s largest landfill.
