HAPPY 6th GOTCHA DAY to Our GORGEOUS, HANDSOME and WONKY Boy ELIJAH with lots and lots of love from us all here ππ₯Ήπ«Άππππ§‘
On the 6th of July 2020 I saw a post on FB about a cat that had been sighted here in our town and it was in a very bad way π’
It was the other side of town from us but that evening we decided to track down the location and search for this cat..
The lady who had put the post on FB asking for help had tried to catch him but then he just disappeared..
For 3 nights we went there and searched around everywhere but couldn't find him but the night of July 9th we had just pulled up in the car there and by luck he was sat on the pavement, head down and right next to the busy boulevard there..I can only imagine this was the same road where he had been hit by a car π’
At this time I didn't have a trap and at first I tried to entice him into the Cat carrier but his mouth was so bad even if he was starving hungry the pain was just too much to eat..He started to head away from me and as a last opportunity to catch him I got as near as possible and threw a large towel over him and grabbed him quickly before he could get away..
I called our vets who were just closing and we took him there straight away...
Broken jaw, broken teeth, infected mouth, 2 slipped vertebrae, inflammation on his spine and an ulcerated eye...He also was very skinny and we think he wouldn't have lasted much longer in the summer heat on the streets in this condition π’π
The vet injected him with an anti-inflammatory injection and antibiotic and for the night he stayed in our basement in a cage..
The next day we took him back to our vets with our other new rescue kitty PEACHES who we had caught the day before finding this boy and she too had a broken jaw..
We were extremely lucky as this boy was relatively healthy and still very young so it helped him heal very quickly..
We named him ELIJAH and with good food, meds, lots of care and support and so much love our gorgeous boy blossomed and soon became another member of our beautiful and growing family here ππ§‘
ELIJAH was extremely nervous and we believed he never really interacted with humans or other cats on the streets as it showed when he was first came here but over time as he started to feel better and much more confident he slowly started to trust and also to learn how to play and be the gorgeous boy that he is today..
A few months after ELIJAH was fully recovered one of his ears started to produce a lot of very dark discharge...We went through all the treatments for eae mites, infection and even had a tooth removed and his ear was flushed whilst he was under anesthesia but once the meds stopped the problem returned and it was causing me a HUGE amount of concern for our boy π We decided to take ELIJAH to a specialist in Sofia (3 hours away) and there he had an MRI scan which revealed he had a polyp in his inner ear..
They couldn't do the surgery straight away but it was rescheduled and our boy went back to the top surgeon in Sofia and he performed a Ventral Bulla Osteotomy (His inner ear and the polyp was all removed) which is a very risky surgery and we were all on tender hooks here but so thankfully and gratefully our Gorgeous Boy recovered very well and after a long course of steroids his second MRI scan showed that no other polyp had grown back there which was a HUGE relief for us ALL.He now has a cataract on his left eye which is most likely from nerve damage from the accident and ear surgery but for now thankfully it's not an issue for him and this once extremely nervous boy is now full of confidence and just loves affection and play π₯Ή
Happy Gotcha Day SWEETHEART ππ€πππ§‘
