📚 As WE.Circular comes to an end, we are proud to share an additional project achievement: two new scientific publications exploring the links between digitalisation, circular economy and women’s entrepreneurship.

The studies look at how digital tools can support sustainability reporting, resource efficiency, circular business models and more inclusive support for women-led SMEs.

They also highlight an important gap: women entrepreneurs are still rarely addressed in research on the digital and circular transition.

🎥 Meet the women-led companies supported through WE.Circular!

Our new video brings together some of the inspiring entrepreneurs who took part in the WE.Circular Innovation Contest and pilot activities across the Danube Region.

Through the WE.Circular Labs, women-led companies received practical support to develop, test and validate circular business ideas - from more responsible use of resources and waste reduction to digital solutions, sustainable products and new ways of engaging customers.

The video gives a glimpse into their businesses, motivation and ambitions for a more circular future. It also takes us back to the WE.Circular Pop-up Store in Bratislava, where many of these companies had the opportunity to present their ideas, exchange experiences and inspire each other.

🌍 Their stories show that circular transition becomes possible when innovative entrepreneurs are given the right space, knowledge and support to turn ideas into action.

🚀 New WE.Circular publication is available!

How can women entrepreneurs turn circular economy ideas into real business action?

The WE.Circular partnership has developed “Innovative Business Models for Circular Transition of Women Entrepreneurs” — a practical publication presenting six circular business model pathways designed to support women-led SMEs in becoming more circular, digital and competitive.

The models offer different starting points for transformation:

♻️ Circular Design Accelerator – redesigning products and services for longer life, reuse and repair
🌱 Resource Champions – improving material use and creating value from secondary or recycled resources
📦 Production Optimizers – making production, packaging, refill, return and logistics systems more circular
💻 Smart Digital Enablers – using data, traceability and digital tools for circular operations
📣 Market Educators – building customer awareness, trust and demand for circular solutions
🤝 Collaborative Ecosystems – creating partnerships and shared circular value chains

The publication is based on real business needs identified through the WE.Circular Labs, Innovation Contest, co-creation activities, peer review and pilot testing. It can be used by women entrepreneurs, business support organisations, innovation hubs, chambers of commerce, municipalities, mentors, trainers and policymakers.

The models can support workshops, mentoring, advisory services, acceleration programmes, circular economy training and regional support measures.

📌 The publication is now available in the Library section of the WE.Circular website.

Explore the models and discover how they can be applied, adapted and transferred across the Danube Region:

Circular economy is no longer only a concept for the future. For many women entrepreneurs across the Danube Region, it is already becoming part of everyday business decisions: how to design products, choose materials, reduce waste, use digital tools, reach customers and build stronger partnerships.

WE.Circular Final Event in Graz: Celebrating Women Shaping Circular Futures

On 20 May 2026, the WE.Circular community came together in Graz for a truly inspiring Final Event, hosted by Innovation Region Styria and held at the Styrian Chamber of Commerce under the theme “Women Shaping Circular Futures.”

The event brought together project partners, stakeholders, strategic partners, policy representatives, business support organisations, experts and companies from across the Danube Region to celebrate the achievements of WE.Circular and to look ahead to the next steps for supporting women entrepreneurs in the circular and digital transition.

The day opened with welcoming words from Gabi Lechner, Vice-President of the Styrian Chamber of Commerce, followed by an overview of the WE.Circular journey presented by Claudia Krobath, Innovation Region Styria.

The first session was dedicated to the policy dimension of women-led circular transformation and to the key strategic results developed by the project. Special contributions included Gabi Lechner, who presented a Styrian perspective on the transformative role of women in the economy, and Karmen Maričić, Coordinator of Priority Area 8 “Competitiveness of Enterprises” of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, who shared the wider Danube Region perspective on enterprise competitiveness and cooperation.

The session also featured the presentation of the Transnational Strategy for Women Entrepreneurs’ Circular Transition by Mariya Zlateva, RAPIV, as well as the Policy Learning Centre and the Virtual Toolbox, presented by Diána Tilla Nagy, Hungarian Economic Development Agency. Together, these contributions showed how policy frameworks, strategic cooperation and practical tools can create stronger conditions for women entrepreneurs, competitiveness and regional innovation.

After the lunch break, the afternoon started in a very special and joyful way - with recognition of Dara’s historic Eurovision 2026 victory with Bangaranga. In honour of her incredible sucess, all participants from more than 12 Danube Region countries joined the Bangaranga spirit and even danced it together, bringing energy, smiles and a strong sense of community into the room.

Then we moved to session 2 where the Learning Network and the Training Programme were presented, while also opening the floor to valuable initiatives providing support in improving skills, including Ecosys4you and IMPACTA, which enriched the discussion with further perspectives on youth entrepreneurship, mentoring and support for women business actors.

The final thematic session was dedicated to business support and regional impact. It showed how the WE.Circular Labs and circular business models can help transform ideas into practical action for SMEs and women entrepreneurs. The session also included important contributions from Karin Huber-Heim, Circular Economy Forum Austria, who shared insights on smart policies for competitive and resilient regions, as well as examples from B2GreenHub and the Office of the Regional Government of Styria on circular and digital transition and the role of public administration.

A particularly meaningful moment of the event was the special Award Ceremony, where Certificates of Recognition were presented to stakeholders and strategic partners who have supported WE.Circular along its long implementation journey. Recognition was given to the Coordinators of Priority Area 8 “Competitiveness of Enterprises” of the EUSDR, representatives of public institutions and ministries, business support organisations, experts and companies with a special contribution to the project’s results and impact.

On the second day, partners and stakeholders validated some of the most important results of WE.Circular, including the project’s strategic outputs, the Labs, circular business models, learning and networking tools, and recommendations for future uptake by public authorities, business support organisations and innovation ecosystems.

WE.Circular has been more than a project - it has become a transnational community of people and organisations committed to making the circular economy more inclusive, practical and accessible for women entrepreneurs.

A warm thank you to all partners, speakers, stakeholders, awardees and supporters who contributed to this journey and helped shape the circular futures we celebrated in Graz.

Together, we are Bangaranga. Together, we are shaping circular futures.

🌍 WE.CIRCULAR at Circular Economy Summit Austria 2026

Circular Economy Summit Austria 2026 impressively demonstrated the importance of well-functioning economic cycles.

The focus was on innovative approaches, concrete practical examples and the question of how awareness-raising can contribute to strengthening regional value creation, resilience and location quality.

🚶‍♀️ We are very pleased to have had the opportunity to be part of the “Walk of Opportunities” and to present our Danube project WE.CIRCULAR to an interested professional audience.

♻️ The summit offered a valuable platform for exchange, visibility and networking around projects that concretely advance the circular economy. Great contributions from the speakers, and the high visibility of female expertise in the panel and speaker formats was particularly encouraging.

🙏 Many thanks to Karin Huber-Heim, Circular Economy Forum Austria, the Styrian Chamber of Commerce Wirtschaftskammer Steiermark and all contributors for the invitation and the successful organisation.
