🚀Angel investors give not only capital, they also give direction

Milen Ivanov, co-founder and CEO of Bulgarian Angels Club, joined "Business Start" on Bloomberg TV Bulgaria to talk about where the Bulgarian startup ecosystem stands today.

Here are some of the highlights:
💡 The ecosystem is maturing - we now have good entrepreneurs, venture capital funds, and angel investors. The challenge - still relatively small and largely concentrated in Sofia.
🤝 The value of angel investors isn't just the check. They invest personal funds at an early stage, but the real value lies in the network and expertise they bring to a founding team.
🎯 It all starts with people. Every company begins with a strong team and a clear mission the investor believes in - especially true for tech companies building their own IP.
🌍 The role of the state: first, don't get in the way of the ecosystem's growth - then figure out how to build on the country's competitive advantages.

Last Wednesday was exactly why we do this🙌

The winners of 2026 had a Special Pitch Evening at Nemetschek Bulgaria in front of members of Bulgarian Angels Club and were the reason angel investors, business leaders, and the next generation of Bulgarian founders were brought together - and it did not disappoint 🚀

Three university teams took the stage and truly delivered:
🌱 Team Agri PV - tackling solar and agricultural integration in a way that made even the toughest questioners in the room nod
🔐 Team CYBREACH - presenting an enterprise cybersecurity solution with a maturity
🎓 Team KarieraHub - pitching a student-built internship platform that clearly struck a chord with some employers in the room

🔥 Their company mentors -Enery, IBM & Syscom Engineering were clear - these teams didn't just understand the problems. They found real solutions, and they worked incredibly hard to get there.

And then there was the moment nobody expected - a high-school team from Technology School Electronic Systems (TUES), presented a humanoid robot they built themselves, supported in the process by their Prof. Dr. Agata Manolova🤖

🤝 Bulgaria's next wave of innovators is already here and we are here to support it.
