Big update from the region: Romania is launching a large‑scale fund to upgrade flood‑prone infrastructure (bridges, dams, flood defenses) over the next five years. For businesses in the region this means: new contracts, service‑opportunities — but also the need to check how infrastructure risk might affect your supply‑chain.
In Bulgaria, the move towards adopting the euro on 1st of Jan 2026 continues to shape the business backdrop.

If your company works in Bulgaria or Romania:
Review how infrastructure and resilience might impact your operations.
Ask if your business can take advantage of Romania’s upcoming infrastructure projects.
In Bulgaria, prepare now for the euro‑transition in pricing, contracts and systems.

Spotlight on Bulgaria & Romania
Big budget pressures in Bulgaria and weak industrial performance in Romania mean the business environment in the region is entering a more cautious phase. In Bulgaria, the 2026 budget is already labelled a major challenge with pressure on wages and pension systems.
In Romania, growth remains modest and industry is still shrinking.

For professionals and companies this means: plan for slower public‑investment cycles, keep a close eye on tax/wage changes and consider how to stay competitive when domestic demand is weak.

In both Romania and Bulgaria, fiscal debates have been heating up.
Experts warn that growing public spending and rising deficits could soon translate into higher taxes for companies and citizens alike.
In Romania, the government has raised its deficit target for 2025 to 8.4% of GDP, sparking questions about sustainability and investor confidence.
🇧🇬 In Bulgaria, the Fiscal Council and IMF have both urged more discipline in public spending, warning that expansionary policies might fuel inflation and higher tax pressure.
For entrepreneurs and businesses on both sides of the Danube, this means one thing — the cost of doing business could change fast.
Planning ahead, managing costs carefully, and staying informed about fiscal policy updates will be crucial in the months ahead.
What do you think?
Should governments focus on reducing deficits, even if it slows growth — or keep stimulating the economy, even if taxes rise later?

Big moves this week in Romania and Bulgaria: both countries are pushing hard on borrowing and budget balancing.

In Romania, the government successfully sold €318 million in new Treasury notes and plans even larger debt issuances in October. Meanwhile, the fiscal watchdog has backed the revised 2025 budget — a signal that things are tightening financially.

In Bulgaria, tax revenues are up strongly, but the budget shortfall is creeping higher. The IMF is already warning that unless some of the spending growth is curbed, the deficit could spiral.

For everyday businesses, this means loans might get more expensive, public projects slower, and the fiscal wind a bit trickier to navigate.

Stay tuned: we’ll watch whether tax hikes, spending cuts, or borrowing shifts become the new reality.

Debt pressures + energy shifts are reshaping business in Bulgaria & Romania

In Romania, the government is reworking its debt to stay stable in turbulent times — even issuing a “green” bond in yen to tap new funding sources. Meanwhile, Bulgaria will stop routing Russian gas via short‑term contracts from 2026, pushing ahead on cleaner, more secure energy paths.

What does it mean for us? Companies and citizens may see ripple effects — from financing costs to energy bills. But it’s also an opportunity: for innovation, adaptability, and stronger regional resilience.

Yesterday, we celebrated 13 years of BCCBR at the Romanian Embassy in Sofia, surrounded by friends, partners, and representatives of both countries.

It was a special evening with the participation of Bulgarian Presidency and Government officials, regional and local authorities from Romania and Bulgaria, and members of our business community.

For more than a decade, BCCBR has been building bridges between Romania and Bulgaria — supporting companies through our four offices in Sofia, Bucharest, Silistra, and Craiova, and working every day to strengthen the ties between our two countries.

A heartfelt thank you to our sponsors — Sameday, Synevo, Gheorghiev Farm, Phenix, Blagi, Silico – Balar Winery, Noia Winery, and Relifia — for helping us bring this celebration to life.

Also a big thank you to HE Brindusa Predescu, the Ambassador of Romania in The Republic of Bulgaria and Embassy team for hospitality and support

Here’s to many more years of cooperation, friendship, and shared growth!
