Speed FRIENDing

If our Speed FRIENDing had a name, it would have been “Friends in Every Direction”!

People from Finland, the UK, the US, France, Poland, Vietnam, Greece, and beyond came together for a lively and chatty evening. The event blended one-on-one conversations with open socializing, giving everyone the chance to meet and connect.

To top it all off, guests enjoyed freshly made lemonade 🍋 – the perfect refreshment for such an energetic gathering!

We’re so happy to say that everyone had a great time, and we can’t wait to do it all again. Stay tuned for our next Speed FRIENDing event in May: Traveler’s Edition. ✈️

🔥 Save the dates! Dobrinka is back with a new travel storytelling series - two evenings, two extremes, two unforgettable journeys.

🌍 First stop: Djibouti - heat, salt lakes, and the edge of Africa.
❄️ Then Antarctica - ice, silence, and the end of the world.

Two separate nights. Two worlds. One storyteller taking us there.

Life Swap – A Simple Roleplay Game to Level Up Your Life

What a night at “Life Swap”!

The idea of the game was simple but surprisingly powerful: create an imaginary character, describe their life, and then try to swap lives with someone else - for whatever reason your character might have.

Everyone jumped in with high energy, really putting heart and soul into their roles. The props made a big difference too, helping people get into character and making the whole experience more immersive. Even complete beginners quickly understood the basics and ended up enjoying themselves a lot.

What stood out most was how many common themes emerged. No matter the age, job, or lifestyle, many characters shared similar reasons for wanting a life swap - most often loneliness or the desire for connection and family. It led to both meaningful and funny moments, and real connections were formed along the way.

The game-master, Alice, did a fantastic job creating a relaxed atmosphere. She was extremely well prepared, and everything flowed smoothly from start to finish. Thanks a bunch, Alice Turner!

Such a special evening - we’re definitely looking forward to more like this!

How to Actually Learn Bulgarian - A practical session for people who tried and got stuck

✏️ On April 8, the English Language Café and Мулти култи // Multi Kulti hosted a special edition of our idea-exchange series with Julia Neuhoff at Salted Café Sofia. The event brought together over 20 participants and turned into a truly global gathering, with a record number of countries represented – including Uzbekistan, USA, England, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, France, Italy, Malta, the Philippines, Sweden, Finland, Ukraine, Israel, India, and more.

The session kicked off with a super practical and honest talk about why learning Bulgarian can feel so frustrating (we’ve all been there 😅) and what actually helps you move past that stuck phase. Julia shared down-to-earth strategies, and the crowd jumped in with questions, personal stories, and lots of “aha” moments. The second half? Pure Language Café vibes – lively conversations, idea exchange, and people switching between English and Bulgarian like pros (or at least trying to 😄).

🙏 Huge, heartfelt thanks to Julia Neuhoff for an engaging and genuinely helpful session – your energy, clarity, and practical approach made a real difference for everyone in the room! And of course, big thanks to all participants for the openness, as well as to Salted Café for hosting us.

Training the Heart: Relating with Compassion

🌱 Such a thoughtful evening at our third “Skills for Better Life” workshop: Training the Heart: Relating with Compassion!

We talked about compassion as something very human and natural – especially toward others – and then turned the focus inward. What does it mean to treat yourself with the same kindness?

Big thanks to Vassilis Xypolias for guiding us through this topic with insight and care, and to everyone who joined with openness and great energy.

And of course, the discussions after the talk were just as rich – this is what makes the English Language Café so special.
