EU-THREAD Citizens’ Debatable Festival on “Uniting Minds, Bridging Borders” in Bucharest

From 24 to 26 May 2026, partners and citizens from Romania, Greece, Slovenia, Bulgaria, and Italy gathered in Bucharest and Comuna Victoria, Romania, for the EU-THREAD – Coming Together within the EU Integration Tapestry Citizens' Debatable Festival, entitled "Uniting Minds, Bridging Borders." The international event formed part of the CERV-2024-CITIZENS-TOWN-TT programme and provided an inspiring platform for dialogue, cooperation, and the promotion of European values.

Hosted by ASOCIATIA A.S.E.L. RO, the festival welcomed participants representing municipalities, civil society organisations, and local communities, creating an inclusive environment where citizens could exchange ideas, strengthen international partnerships, and explore the future of European cooperation. The event reflected the overall mission of EU-THREAD: to strengthen citizens' understanding of the European Union, encourage democratic participation, and foster a stronger sense of European identity through town twinning and intercultural dialogue.
The programme officially commenced with participants arriving in Bucharest, followed by welcome greetings and a networking dinner that offered an excellent opportunity for delegates to become acquainted and begin building relationships before the working sessions.

The second day featured a rich programme of presentations, discussions, and expert contributions. Following the official opening and presentation of the agenda, representatives from each partner country introduced their organisations and highlighted their commitment to promoting active citizenship, solidarity, and European cooperation. These introductory statements demonstrated the diversity of expertise within the consortium while reinforcing the shared vision that unites all partners under the EU-THREAD initiative.

Participants were then introduced to the EU-THREAD project through a presentation outlining its objectives, thematic priorities, and long-term vision. Discussions focused on the project's eight thematic pillars, which address topics including civic participation, social inclusion, sustainability, innovation, youth empowerment, cultural diversity, mobility, and peace. These themes provided the foundation for meaningful exchanges throughout the event and highlighted the importance of cooperation between European communities.

Throughout the day, expert presentations explored some of the most pressing issues facing Europe today. Sessions examined the importance of strengthening European citizenship, empowering citizens to actively participate in democratic life, and reinforcing inclusive governance across the European Union. A policy expert further encouraged participants to reflect on the future of European democracy and the role that citizens play in shaping resilient and democratic societies.

One of the highlights of the festival was the interactive open discussion entitled "How Can the European Union Reconnect with Its Citizens at the Local Level?" Participants openly exchanged views on what European citizenship means today, the barriers that prevent citizens from participating in democratic processes, the importance of youth engagement, and practical actions that can strengthen solidarity and inclusion across Europe. The dialogue demonstrated the value of participatory approaches in ensuring that citizens' voices contribute to European policy discussions and future initiatives.

The afternoon concluded with two high-level European presentations focusing on the significance of citizen participation for the future of Europe and the opportunities and challenges facing democracy today. These sessions encouraged participants to consider how local engagement can contribute to stronger democratic institutions and a more united Europe.
Beyond the formal programme, the cultural evening created valuable opportunities for intercultural exchange and networking. Participants shared experiences, traditions, and perspectives, reinforcing friendships and partnerships while celebrating the cultural diversity that characterises the European Union. Such informal exchanges played an equally important role in strengthening mutual understanding and building lasting international cooperation.

The final day included a study visit to Bucharest, where participants gained insights into local governance and decision-making structures. The visit enabled delegates to better understand how democratic processes operate at the local level while exchanging good practices that could be transferred to their own communities. The event concluded with a closing ceremony, during which participants reflected on the achievements of the festival and reaffirmed their commitment to continued European cooperation.
The EU-THREAD Citizens' Debatable Festival successfully demonstrated how dialogue, cooperation, and citizen participation can strengthen European unity while respecting the diversity of local communities. By bringing together participants from five European countries, the event fostered meaningful discussions, encouraged active civic engagement, and reinforced the shared values that lie at the heart of the European project. The festival represented another important milestone in the implementation of EU-THREAD and further strengthened the partnerships that will continue working together towards a more democratic, inclusive, and connected Europe.

We are pleased to share that the First Workshop of the Erasmus+ KA2 project “NextGen Citizen: Innovating Civic Learning for Tomorrow” was successfully held in Sofia, Bulgaria, from 5 to 9 May 2026.

The workshop brought together the project partners for several days of joint work, learning, discussion and exchange of experiences around the project’s main themes and objectives.

The event provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen cooperation between the partner organisations, share perspectives and experiences, and further develop the ideas and approaches that will support the implementation of the project’s upcoming activities.

The “NextGen Citizen” project aims to enhance civic education and promote active citizenship among young people through innovative, digital and non-formal learning approaches, while fostering democratic values, social responsibility and cross-national cooperation.

The successful completion of the First Workshop marks another important step in the implementation of the project and in the continued collaboration between the partner organisations.

Това беше предизвикателството пред участниците във второто международно събитие по проекта SustiBridge, което се проведе в Budapest от 26 до 28 май.

Заедно с партньори от 8 европейски държави търсихме иновативни решения на реални социални и екологични предизвикателства. Чрез работа в международни екипи, творчески работилници и обмен на добри практики разработвахме идеи за по-устойчиво, приобщаващо и свързано бъдеще. 🌱🤝

Връщаме се с нови знания, вдъхновение и ценни контакти, които ще ни помогнат да продължим да изграждаме мостове между хората, общностите и устойчивото развитие.

🚀🌍 What will Europe look like in 2035?

This was the challenge for the participants of the second international event of the SustiBridge project, which took place in Budapest from 26 to 28 May.

Together with partners from 8 European countries, we searched for innovative solutions to real social and environmental challenges. Through working in international teams, creative workshops and exchanging good practices, we developed ideas for a more sustainable, inclusive and connected future. 🌱🤝

We return with new knowledge, inspiration and valuable contacts that will help us continue to build bridges between people, communities and sustainable development.

Имаме удоволствието да споделим, че първата транснационална среща по проект „NextGen Citizen: Innovating Civic Learning for Tomorrow“ (Erasmus+ KA2) беше успешно проведена в периода 18–20 март 2026 г. в София, България.

В качеството си на координатор на проекта, Фондация „Кореняк“ беше домакин на срещата и имаше удоволствието да посрещне всички партньорски организации.

Срещата отбеляза официалния старт на проекта и събра партньорите с цел изграждане на общо разбиране относно рамката на проекта, процесите на координация и следващите стъпки.

По време на срещата партньорите:
• Представиха своите организации и обмениха опит
• Обсъдиха целите на проекта и подхода за изпълнение
• Съгласуваха предстоящите дейности, график и отговорности
• Поставиха основите на ефективна комуникация и сътрудничество

Проектът „NextGen Citizen“ има за цел да подобри гражданското образование и да насърчи активното участие на младите хора чрез иновативни, дигитални и неформални образователни подходи.

🎨 Успешно проведен младежки обмен „Bridges of Colour – Crafting Peace and Unity through Art“

С радост споделяме, че младежкият обмен „Bridges of Colour“ се проведе успешно в периода 15–21 февруари 2026 г. в Солун, Гърция.

В рамките на проекта млади хора от различни европейски държави се събраха, за да изследват силата на изкуството като средство за диалог, разбирателство и изграждане на мир. Чрез творчески работилници, групова работа и междукултурен обмен участниците имаха възможност да изразят себе си, да споделят идеи и да създадат заедно пространство на доверие и сътрудничество.

✨ По време на мобилността участниците:
▪️ развиха умения за работа в екип и комуникация
▪️ задълбочиха разбирането си за европейските младежки политики
▪️ създадоха колективни художествени произведения, отразяващи темите за мир, единство и културно многообразие
▪️ изградиха нови приятелства и международни партньорства

Проектът показа, че изкуството може да бъде мост между различни култури и гледни точки, насърчавайки емпатия, солидарност и активно гражданско участие.

🎨 Successfully completed youth exchange “Bridges of Colour – Crafting Peace and Unity through Art”

We are happy to share that the youth exchange “Bridges of Colour” was successfully implemented from 15 to 21 February 2026 in Thessaloniki, Greece.

During the project, young people from different European countries came together to explore the power of art as a tool for dialogue, understanding, and peacebuilding. Through creative workshops, group activities, and intercultural exchange, participants had the opportunity to express themselves, share perspectives, and build a space of trust and cooperation.

✨ Throughout the mobility, participants:
▪️ developed teamwork and communication skills
▪️ deepened their understanding of European youth policies
▪️ created collective artworks reflecting themes of peace, unity, and cultural diversity
▪️ built new friendships and international connections

The project demonstrated how art can serve as a bridge between cultures, fostering empathy, solidarity, and active citizenship.

🙏 We would like to thank all participants, partners, and organisers for this inspiring experience!
