I am raising funds for the start-up residential home, FOUND IN BULGARIA. My name is Krista Atkova. I'm an American living in Bulgaria for now 14 years with my beautiful Bulgarian family. After working with orphaned and neglected children as a kindergarten and elementary teacher, I began to feel that my next step was to start a family-style home for neglected and orphaned children. This organizatio
n will build and run family-style homes for children deprived of parental care in Bulgaria. State-run protective housing in Bulgaria does not have enough funding or staff to properly raise children, who have no chance of being accepted in a foster family or adopted. The majority of these children are of Roma ethnicity and fall victims to racism in schools, neighborhoods, and inside their own state-run housing. Malnutrition is also an issue in many shelters. With no support, education, or training, many of these children are at high risk to fall victims to human trafficking and sexual exploitation in Europe and around the world. Bulgaria is one of the largest resource countries in Europe for human trafficking. I can see a home where love and acceptance is a child’s daily encounter. Where a child can spend their entire childhood and adolescence in one home. Where they can receive support to obtain a proper education and get help to transition into adulthood. Where they can understand they were born for a purpose and they have something to offer the world. Where they not only have a chance to be restored, but can be used to restore others. That they can live a life of wholeness, beauty, and purpose. So I’m asking if you feel moved to give a child a home, feel free to donate and know your generosity will go towards a changed life.
