Оттеглянето на Латвия от Истанбулската конвенция представлява тревожен прецедент за правата на жените в Европа, се посочва в официално изявление на Soroptimist International of Europe, обединяваща близо 30 000 жени от 43 държави.

В изявлението се напомня, че Латвия има поети ангажименти и по други международни договори - Европейската конвенция за правата на човека, Конвенцията за премахване на всички форми на дискриминация срещу жените (CEDAW) и редица основни споразумения на ООН. Оттеглянето от Истанбулската конвенция подкопава не само конкретните механизми за защита, но и цялостната правна и морална рамка на ангажимента на държавата към правата на човека.
