One month ago, we kicked off the Second Youth Leadership Meeting in Solferino. ❤️

📍For four inspiring days, more than 50 young leaders from across Europe and Central Asia came together to exchange ideas, challenge perspectives, strengthen partnerships, and shape the future of youth engagement in our Movement.

From meaningful discussions and practical workshops to conversations and new friendships, the meeting reminded us that leadership is not about leading alone - it’s about learning from one another and creating change together. ✅

A month later, the conversations continue, the connections remain strong, and the ideas are already turning into action across our National Societies.✨

Thank you to everyone who made this gathering possible and to every participant who brought their passion, experience, and commitment to our Network.🤍

🕯️❤️ Fiaccolata | Honouring Our Humanitarian Roots

As the sun set over Solferino, participants of the Second ECAYN Youth Leadership Meeting joined thousands of volunteers, staff, and supporters from across the globe in the Fiaccolata - the traditional torchlight procession that commemorates the Battle of Solferino and the birth of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement. ❤️

Walking the historic route from Solferino to Castiglione delle Stiviere, we reflected on the compassion shown by local communities in 1859 and on the powerful idea that inspired Henry Dunant: that humanity knows no borders. ✨

For the young leaders gathered from across Europe and Central Asia, the Fiaccolata was more than a tradition. It was a reminder of the values that unite us, the responsibility we share, and the impact that dedicated volunteers continue to make every day in their communities. ✅

Together, carrying the light forward, we reaffirmed our commitment to humanity, solidarity, and meaningful youth leadership - ensuring that the spirit born in Solferino continues to inspire future generations.🕯️

🌍✨ Day 3 | Second ECAYN Youth Leadership Meeting

📍The third and final day of the Second ECAYN Youth Leadership Meeting was dedicated to strengthening leadership skills and exploring how young people can drive positive change within and beyond the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement.

The discussions then turned to polycrisis, exploring how interconnected global challenges. Participants reflected on the role of young people in building resilient communities and developing innovative, community-driven responses to increasingly complex crises. 🖇️

🌱 During the afternoon, the focus shifted to sharing practical methodologies and good practices. Through interactive table discussions, participants exchanged experiences and tools on Y-Adaptfor climate change adaptation, Youth as Agents of Behavioural Change (YABC). and SafeMates for mental health and psychosocial support. These sessions provided a valuable opportunity to learn from one another, discover innovative approaches, and strengthen collaboration across National Societies.

✨ Another day of meaningful conversations, shared learning, and strengthened connections, demonstrating that young leaders are not only preparing for the future but actively shaping it today.

🌍✨ Day 3 | Second Youth Leadership Meeting of ECAYN

The third day of the Second Youth Leadership Meeting of the ECAYN focused on strengthening leadership, collaboration, and humanitarian action through engaging discussions and interactive learning.

🤝 Participants explored the importance of Humanitarian Diplomacy, gaining insights into how advocacy and dialogue help the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement respond to humanitarian challenges and influence positive change.

🇮🇹 The Italian Red Cross shared inspiring experiences on leadership development and international cooperation, highlighting how strong partnerships can empower young people and strengthen humanitarian action across borders.

🌟 Throughout the day, participants also had the opportunity to exchange with Xavier Castellanos, IFRC Under Secretary General, during the Light in the Darkness session, and Rosario Valastro, President of the Italian Red Cross, who shared their vision on the essential role of young people in strengthening the Movement and shaping its future.

🌱 The day concluded with an engaging session on Climate Change, where participants explored the Movement’s Climate Roadmap, discussed the draft Youth-Led Climate Strategy, and contributed ideas to help shape its future development.

💬 The evening provided dedicated Sub-Regional Spaces, allowing participants to connect within their networks, exchange experiences, discuss future cooperation, and celebrate good practices together.

Another inspiring day of learning, meaningful dialogue, and youth-led action for a stronger and more resilient Movement. ✨

🌍✨ Days 1 & 2 | Second Youth Leadership Meeting of ECAYN

🔛 The Second Youth Leadership Meeting of the Europe and Central Asia Youth Network (ECAYN) is officially underway, bringing together young leaders from across the region to connect, learn, and shape the future of youth engagement within the Movement.

🤝 Day 1 was dedicated to building connections. Participants had the opportunity to get to know one another, creating a welcoming and collaborative environment for the days ahead. The day also included a visit to the Red Cross Red Crescent Museum, where participants explored the rich humanitarian history of the Movement and reflected on the values and principles that continue to guide our work today.

💡 Day 2 focused on strengthening knowledge and leadership. Participants explored the role of youth within the Movement, discussed the revision of the Youth Policy, and exchanged ideas on creating more meaningful opportunities for young people to contribute to decision-making processes. The programme also included sessions on the Youth Engagement Strategy 2.0 (YES 2.0) and youth participation in the upcoming Statutory meetings.

📍The day concluded with the Raid Cross, organized by the Italian Red Cross, where participants put humanitarian principles into practice through interactive activities.

This year’s theme focuses on Indoor Heat Risk, because the places where we spend most of our time, such as homes, schools, workplaces, hospitals, and public transport, can sometimes become even hotter than outdoor spaces.

ECAYN joins organizations and communities worldwide to raise awareness about the health risks of extreme heat and the actions we can take to protect ourselves and those most vulnerable.

🤝 Check on elderly people and those with chronic illnesses

As climate change intensifies heatwaves around the world, understanding and addressing indoor heat is more important than ever.
