Psychological First Aid (PFA) is a simple and supportive first response for a person who has gone through a stressful, upsetting or overwhelming situation. It helps create safety, calm and connection in the first moments after an incident.

PFA is used to support people with immediate emotional distress, but 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗽𝘆. It is about listening, reducing stress, and helping the person take the next safe step.

In this new 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗕𝗔𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗧𝗘 video, created within our training activity in 𝗣𝗮̈𝗿𝗻𝘂, 𝗘𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗮, we explain the basics of PFA in a practical and accessible way.

Because good support starts with simple human presence.

The final days of the project were dedicated to turning learning into practical solutions and future initiatives.

Participants explored different resilience programs from around the world, analyzing their goals and methods before designing their own resilience programs tailored to specific target groups. Through role-play activities, teams tested their ideas in practice and received feedback to improve their concepts.

💡 During the Resilience Program Market Fair, teams presented their projects, exchanged ideas, and inspired each other with creative approaches to supporting young people’s well-being.

🌱 The training continued with a session on building inclusive and resilient communities, where participants designed community initiatives that promote both inclusion and resilience.

🎓 The project concluded with the YouthPass certificate ceremony, reflections on the sustainable practices implemented during the training, and a final evaluation session where participants shared their key learnings and future action plans.

Our next day was focused on Resilient Youth: Facing Challenges with Confidence 💬

We began with a Youth Challenges Mind Map, where participants shared their thoughts about the pressures and difficulties affecting their generation. Using sticky notes, they created a visual map of issues such as stress, social pressure, and online challenges.

🎭 Through role-play activities, participants stepped into real-life situations faced by young people. Acting out these scenarios helped them better understand the emotions, struggles, and perspectives behind different challenges.

💡 In the Solution Stations, groups explored different youth-related issues and worked together to brainstorm possible solutions. By rotating between stations and building on each other’s ideas, participants developed collaborative approaches to supporting young people.

Our next day focused on Mental Strength & Well-being: A Resilience Approach 🌿

We builded resilience and understanding the connection between our emotions, body, and environment.

We began with the Emotional Thermometer, where participants reflected on how they currently feel and mapped their emotions on a shared scale. This opened space for honest discussion about emotional states and personal resilience.

📍 In the Life’s Journey Map activity, participants created timelines of the highs and lows in their lives. By visualizing these experiences, they recognized moments of strength, recovery, and the ways they have overcome challenges.

🌲 Later, the group explored the body–mind connection through simple Acroyoga exercises in nature, experiencing how movement and physical balance can support mental well-being.

The day ended with a peaceful forest walk and reflection, where participants connected with nature and shared thoughts and feelings inspired by the surroundings.

Another meaningful day of learning, reflection, and growth together ✨

Our next day at the training course started with Mindful Moments & Positive Reflections, where soft music and inspiring images helped participants slow down and focus on the present moment. Through sharing positive memories, the group explored ideas from positive psychology and reflected on the importance of noticing the good things in life.

📝 In the Gratitude Journaling activity, participants wrote down three positive moments from the past week and reflected on how these experiences made them feel. Sharing these moments reminded everyone how powerful gratitude can be in building a more positive mindset.

🍎 Later, during the Mindful Eating session, participants experienced how paying full attention to taste, texture, and smell can transform something as simple as eating into a mindful practice.

🎨 The day ended with the creation of Happiness Maps – colorful collages representing the people, memories, and activities that bring joy. Through sharing their maps, participants discovered that happiness is often found in simple everyday moments.

On our next day at the TC "Youth Workers’ Lab for Mental Well-being"

🧶 In the “Unraveling the Stress” workshop, participants used a ball of yarn to visualize how stress builds up and created their own stress maps to identify everyday stressors and triggers.

✨ During “Stress in a Bottle,” glitter in a bottle symbolized worries and overwhelming thoughts. As the glitter slowly settled, participants reflected on how taking a moment to pause and breathe can calm the mind.

🌿 In the Stress Management Practices session, participants tried practical techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, assertiveness, and simple physical exercises to help manage stress in daily life.

🎒 The Stress Backpack activity helped participants physically experience the weight of stress by placing labeled weights in a backpack, then replacing them with symbols of positive coping strategies like music, rest, or learning.

Our new journey has officially begun! 🌍

The project TC Youth Workers’ Lab for Mental Well-being has started in Pernik, Bulgaria, bringing together youth workers from different countries to explore new approaches to supporting mental well-being in youth work.

This week we are hosted by the Youth Center of Pernik, where the first day was all about breaking the ice and building connections. Through interactive activities, participants shared their names, hobbies, and stories, creating a warm, open, and supportive atmosphere from the very beginning.

In the afternoon, the group explored the city through a team Treasure Hunt — a fun and energetic challenge that encouraged teamwork, communication, and collaboration while discovering Pernik together.

✨ New friendships
✨ New ideas
✨ And the start of a meaningful learning journey

💬 If you were joining an international training like this, what would your hidden talent or hobby be? Tell us in the comments!
