Partners for Special Education in Bulgaria

Partners for Special Education in Bulgaria Creating meaningful learning opportunities for individuals with disabilities in Bulgaria.

Founders Joshua and Anne Andrews created Partners for Special Education in Bulgaria (“PSEB”) due to their belief that all individuals, everywhere, deserve regular and continual opportunities for learning to fully realize their potential. Due to their Peace Corps experience in Bulgaria, their understanding of the Bulgarian language, and Anne’s career in supplying therapy to children with disabiliti

es, they are uniquely positioned to make meaningful impact improving educational opportunities for individuals with disabilities that are otherwise unavailable within Bulgaria. In order to generate sustainable and impactful change, PSEB provides training from experts from the United States to caregivers who work with children and adults with disabilities to help improve their organization’s educational programming. We also supply support to Bulgarians to assist them in becoming specialists and developing them into trainers, enabling exponential growth in spreading high quality training within the country and improving the lives of individuals with disabilities, as well as their families.

To Stas Mraz, our WONDERFUL translator! This trip would not be possible without your assistance and expertise. We truly appreciate the time, care, and attention to detail you put into your work. You always helped ensure that the message was clear, accurate, and natural! But, you are so much more than a translator to us! You are a great friend and were so fun to watch and work with on this trip! We can’t wait to see you again!

THURSDAY MORNING @ THE WEST CENTER was full of cooking, playing outside and spending more time with all our friends!

Big day at the West Center! Lots of celebrations, for a birthday and for learning new things! We got to have a party, dance, do a parachute, practice with devices to speak, spend time outside, and play with blocks! We have been working with the colleagues on concepts related to toilet training, increasing social connection and relationships with children who don’t always readily show interest. With application of evidence based strategies we are seeing progress with staff and children alike!

Over the weekend we were able to spend time with our friends at Vista Kids - Холистична детска занималня! We discussed topics related to motivation and assent, how to notice and maximize the motivation of children to encourage participation and positive interactions. We are so grateful for the support of Vista Kids while we are in Kazanlak, their support has allowed our PSEB trainers to be available for direct work at the day care centers and we are happy to return the favor with quality training and discussions.

Today was a busy day at the East Center! We learned and tried a lots of new things. It was a great day for new ideas and collaboration. We navigated our new AAC devices and continued to become comfortable using them, had dance breaks, tried new games and activities, and used flexibility to dive right in to it all!
