To All Dear Friends, Parrot and Bird Lovers and all other interested parties:
Project: First and Only Parrots Rescue Sanctuary in Bulgaria
Mission: To Help Parrots in Need of Care
Primary Objective: To fully rehabilitate these beautiful birds so that they may live a life of happiness and in harmony with their new families/remain secure in the sanctuary. Since PRC-Bulgaria is a non-profit organiz
ation, we depend upon donations and volunteers to continue our mission. My name is Ognyan, my wife's name is Sveta. Our lives with parrots started around 12 years ago when we bought a parrot, which was evidently in a state of extreme distress. As we nursed ‘Ricko’ back to health, we became increasingly involved in the process and also increasingly aware of the many birds in need of help. I may say at some point during the process Parrots became our love and passion. During the twelve years whilst living in Northern Russia we have nursed many parrots young and old including hatchlings to a state of health and vitality. We have an ‘open door’ policy: open to all unwanted, neglected and abused parrots. Because of our work and love for parrots, we have managed to save many lives thereafter place these companions into loving and caring homes. The Parrot Rescue Sanctuary was a project in the making for over six years, in 2014 we successfully located a prime location to develop the plan and acquired property and land in the village of Sokolovtsi, Smolyan, Bulgaria. We are located 300km from Macedonia, 50 km from Greece, 90 km from the Aegean Sea and 1000 mtres high amongst pure air and pine forests, with an international ski resort 10 miles to the north - and a small trout river running through the terrain. After building the parrot shelter prior to the onset of winter last year have we now move onto phase three of a six-phase plan. We are delighted to report the birds travelled well and are now thriving in their new environment. We are now seeking to execute the remainder of the project by the creation of the first Parrot Rescue and Sanctuary in Bulgaria. All our parrots are out of their residences all day, with full interaction to ourselves and indeed each other: each bird gets individual playtime along with group playtime if they so desire. We specifically limit the number of birds to ensure each is provided with sufficient nurturing time. These birds are in our personal care 24/7 which allows for effective monitoring in respect to behavior, sleeping and eating patterns – an approach which fully supports the process of successful future adoption. We do not sell parrots and do not breed parrots for sale. We strive to provide the best possible living conditions for the maximum number of birds limited by present resources. At present we have nine big parrots, with next construction task during summer months to provide for a further 7-10 parrots for rehabilitation/possible adoption in due course. We need to purchase more large residencies for the parrots to better serve our present rescue demands. We need more food, vitamins, cures, medicines, toys and stands for parrots. We must finish planning and reconstruction of the house and gardens to be more useful for the parrots. We would like to start the plans to build full outdoor flight aviary for our permanent birds. Ultimately, we have to fulfill our project and create a park and rescue center for parrots in Bulgaria. All these years we have maintained and grown our Rescue and Sanctuary by our own funds and we will continue to do so – albeit these are limited. As we enter this next phase we are realistic and seek financial support of any kind. Please contact us for further information and be part of this unique and wonderful project of the first Parrot Centre in Bulgaria.
