📊 Our new report offers a comparative analysis of Belgium and Sweden, exposing the gap between formal rights and lived realities. Through an intersectional lens, it highlights how insecure migration status, language and bureaucratic barriers, institutional fragmentation, and systemic bias continue to limit migrant women’s access to protection and justice.

⚖️ This research identifies shared challenges, country-specific obstacles, and urgent areas for EU-level reform, calling for policies that truly ensure safety, support, and justice for all women, without exception.

📜An Open Letter to Mr. Ömer Kerkez, the newly elected President of the Court of Cassation of Turkey, has been communicated by International Human Rights Organizations and Legal Professionals.

📌The letter extends congratulations to Mr. Kerkez on his new position as president and highlights the critical importance of judicial independence and impartiality. It addresses concerns regarding the detention of 28 girls and arrest of 10 university students for activities that do not constitute crimes under universal legal standards.

📌Key issues raised include:
▶️Detentions and arrests based on the use of the ByLock app, accounts with Bank Asya, or membership in trade unions, which are not accepted as crime by the European Court of Human Rights' Yalçınkaya judgement.
▶️The legality of the arrest warrants and police interrogations.

📌The letter recommends:
▶️Immediate and thorough review of the cases involving the detained girls and arrested university students to ensure compliance with international legal standards.
▶️Full implementation of the ECtHR Yalçınkaya decision.
▶️Training programs for judges and law enforcement officers on international human rights standards.
▶️Establishment of an independent oversight committee to ensure transparency and accountability within the judicial system.
▶️Reinforcement of judicial independence from external pressures.

📢We are excited to announce the publication of our latest report, "Bridging Divides: The Landscape of Women's Rights in Turkey". We are proud to share our insights into the complex landscape of women's rights in Turkey.

❗️As we commemorate Women's Rights Day, it's crucial to reflect on the intricate landscape of women's rights in Turkey. While significant strides have been made, there remain critical challenges that demand our attention:

1️⃣ Imprisonment of Pregnant Women: Thousands of women, including especially those associated with the Gülen Movement, find themselves behind bars in Turkey. This raises alarming concerns, particularly for pregnant women and those who have recently given birth. The conditions of incarceration not only jeopardize their own health but also pose significant risks to the well-being of their newborns.

2️⃣ Violence Against Women: Despite legal reforms and increased public awareness, gender-based violence continues to plague society. From domestic abuse to honor killings, women face pervasive threats to their safety and dignity. Cultural norms and gaps in legal protections perpetuate this cycle of violence, leaving many women vulnerable and without recourse.

3️⃣ Refugee Women: Turkey hosts the largest population of refugees globally, with women and children comprising a significant portion of this vulnerable group. women face intersecting forms of discrimination and hardship, including limited access to essential services like healthcare, education, and employment. Their plight underscores the urgent need for targeted support and interventions to address their unique challenges.
